Please share a memory of Julia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Lloydminster Hospital. Julie (nee Kulczycki) was born in Glaslyn,SK on February 6, 1926 and moved to Meadow Lake as a young girl alongside her family whom farmed, raised cattle and ran a sawmill. She and her twin brother, Tony were the 3rd youngest of a family of 14. She attended post secondary school in Saskatoon, 1947 - 1949 and attained her teaching diploma. She moved to th4e Lloydminster area where she taught at the Trafalgar teacherage for 3 years, then one year in North Battleford and later a year in Streamstown, Alberta. She married Bill Rekrutiak July 7, 1953. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters. Julia was a hard working, strong lady and as a farm girl, farm wife and mother, acquired many home maker skills - sewing, knitting, crocheting, delicious home baked meals, gardening and canning. She took much pride in their farmyard, it was always well groomed and filled with flowers. Mom and Dad hosted manly family events through the summers. A special hobby of hers was the daily diary she maintained for 66 years. She was an avid athlete in her post secondary years, coached basketball and volleyball while teaching and became involved in Lloydminster both curling and golfing, and attained lifetime membership at these clubs. She loved the outdoors, cross country skied, loved camping and traveled with Dad and family and friends through Canada, the States and Europe. Throughout her life, she shared her love with her grandchildren in Hardisty and Prince Albert, hosted or made many a trip with Bill to follow their many extra-curricular events including hockey, dance, gymnastics, and music concerts. This past year, Julia was blessed to become a great grandmother to great granddaughter, Isla Isabelle. Julia leaves to mourn, her daughters: Connie (Blaine) Cullen, Donna (Stirling) Lehner; grandchildren: Travis (Nichole) Cullen, Megan (Byron) Cullen, Katelyn Lehner, Karson Lehner; great-granddaughter: Isla Cullen; and one sister: Emily Ratke and numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families. Julia was predeceased by her husband, Bill, her parents, Anton and Kathleen, 12 brothers and sisters. There is an encompassing void in our lives that will never be filled and we are blessed with beautiful memories. We wish to thank Dr. A. Snyman, the third floor medical nursing staff and palliative staff, and additional support staff at the Lloydminster Hospital for their compassionate and professional care to our mother. A special thank you to a special caregiver, Sheila Ross. The Funeral Service for Julia will be held at St. John's Anglican Church, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Archdeacon Michael Stonhouse officiating. Donations in memory of Julia may be made to the Lloydminster Regional Health Foundation or Charity of Choice.
