OBITUARY ~

SIMPSON: James (Jim) Andrew Simpson passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the age of 54 years. The funeral service was held at the Grace United Church, Lloydminster, AB on Thursday October 19, 2017.

Jim will be remembered by his wife, Chris, son Evan, parents Jim and Tena Simpson; sisters Ellen MacEwen (Del, Chad, Tanis and families), Mavis Allin (Dustin, Danae, Brody and families), Gerry Ann and Earl Fraser (Danielle and family), Janet and Kim Smith (Llewellyn and Morgan) and Bev and Greg McKenzie (Skylar,Kelsey and family) Jim was predeceased by his brother-in-law Monty MacEwen and special friends Fred and Gay Evans and their sons Roy and Randy.

Jim was born on July 30, 1963 in Humboldt, SK, along with his twin sister Janet. The family lived in Humboldt until 1966, when they moved to Moose Jaw. Jim had a great childhood in Moose Jaw and always drove down High Street when he returned to see the old neighbourhood. With five sisters to keep Tena busy, Jim found a few older neighbour boys who took him on all sorts of mischievous adventures that he fondly remembered.

The family relocated to Lloydminster in late 1971. Jim played hockey and eventually football growing up and spent lots of his spare time with Fred and Gay Evans at their farm north of Lloydminster. He had a very special relationship with them and many fond memories. As a teenager, Jim went to work for Frank Tatro at Turbo and earned money for motorbike and a car.

He and his friend Dwayne got lots of use out of their motorbikes. They were once chased by the RCMP at a time when Tena worked at the local detachment. The two of them were not caught and the officers returned from the chase frustrated that they didn’t catch them. Tena was at work at the time and was pretty sure she knew who the offenders were.

After high school, Jim went to the University of Saskatchewan for his Diploma in Agriculture. He had a passion for agriculture despite not growing up on a farm. Jim spent nearly 30 years in the agriculture industry in a variety of roles. He had a passion for quality work and customer service as witnessed in notes received after his death.

In 1992, he married Chris Spasoff. They lived in Lloydminster for a couple years and relocated to High River, AB for work in 1995. Jim had purchased pasture on the North Saskatchewan River from Gay Evans prior to their marriage and later they bought some land south of Kitscoty. Their son, Evan was born in High River in 1999 and at the end of 2000, they decided to move back to Lloydminster area.

In 2000, they moved to the new house south of Kitscoty and began working on a yard which Jim diligently looked after every summer, eventually planting over 300 trees. Jim was active with Evan and his hockey teams, helping coach in the early years and the as a spectator later on. Jim spent a lot of time water skiing at Little Fishing Lake as a young adult. When a cabin came up for sale at Little Fishing Lake, Jim jumped at the opportunity. The family spent time quadding and fishing at Little Fishing Lake and the pasture on the river. In recent years he and Evan spent a lot of time at the river fixing fence and fishing in the jet boat, often well after the sun went down. Jim will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Chris and Evan would like to thank family and friends for the kind words, cards, flower and donations to Project Sunrise; Joyce Dickson for officiating the service, Kim Smith for delivering the eulogy, the ladies at Grace United Church for the lunch for the tea and coffee and McCaw Funeral Service for their care and attention. Those wishing to do so may send a donation in Jim’s name to Project Sunrise, Prairie Health Region – Lloydminster Foundation, #116 – 4910 50th Street, Lloydminster, SK S9V 0Y5.
