Joyce Campbell (Nee Hinde)

Obituary of Joyce Wenona Campbell (Nee Hinde)

Joyce Wenona Campbell beloved wife of Walter, and mother to Sharon, Ross, and Barbara passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 91 years.

Joyce was born on her parents’ farm, location 31-46-24-3, south of Waseca, SK. She grew up during the “Dirty Thirties” when life was not as easy as the years following. She attended school at Battlevale School District and then in North Battleford, SK, to complete her high school. She attended Teacher’s College (Normal School) at Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, SK, where she received a two-year teaching certificate. She taught at a few small country schools near Harris, SK. It was at a local dance that she met Walter, and that was the beginning of almost seventy years together. They were married at Christ Church, Waseca, SK, on April 11, 1955. Joyce was a hard-working farm wife, first living in a three-room house near Tessier, SK, then moving to a farm four miles south of Waseca, SK, in 1961. She attended All Saints Anglican Church in Lashburn regularly during the family’s early years. Joyce enjoyed sewing, gardening, curling, bowling, and volunteering in the community. She played piano in her younger days. She also enjoyed travelling over the years. Some of her more memorable trips included driving the Alaska Highway to Dempsey with Walter, bus tours with other couples, flying to Hawaii, Mexico, Maui, and Florida, as well as an Alaskan cruise with family. One of the things she will fondly be remembered for is her love of family and the value of hard work.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Walter, daughters, Sharon, and Barbara (Chris Roth), and her son, Ross. She is also survived by her sister Arlene McColl, of White Rock, BC, brother Jim Hinde (Lorraine), of Edmonton, AB; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Campbell of Saskatoon, SK, and Valerie Hinde of Watrous, SK; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Ian, Janine (Arthur), Jamie (Lynn), Jason, Stewart, Sherron (Shane); and eight great-grandchildren, Nixon, Lucas, Logan, Bennett, Jacob, Dani, Evan, Henry, and Jasmine.

Joyce was predeceased by her father Ross Hinde, her mother Hazel Hinde, her mother-in-law Ruth Campbell, father-in-law Merrill Campbell, her brother Lano Hinde, her sons-in-law, Steve Kulbida and Lorne Garner; and by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Neil Campbell, Richard Campbell, Robert (Joan) Campbell, and Donald (Linda) Campbell.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Waseca Community Hall, Waseca, SK, at a later date in April.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
