Marlene Newsted

Obituary of Marlene Newsted

On February 23, 2025, we lost our Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Auntie and Friend.

Marlene (Mars) was born in North Battleford on May 5, 1951 to Nick and Shirley Gabruch. She has a twin sister, Darlene (Sherman) Sundbo, Penny (Randy) Aston; brother, Ray (Kelly) Gabruch.

She was predeceased by both parents and brother, Terry. Mars married Gord Newsted in July, 1971. Their proudest moments were the birth of their children, Brett (Michelle), Kris (Kari) Hemsley and Kelly (Sean) McGilvery.

Mars was raised on a farm at Paynton, where she learned the benefits of hard work. She went to school in Paynton, until Grade 12 when she went to Maidstone, where she met Gord and shared the next 56 years together.

Also a hard worker, she worked side by side with Gord, first farming, then they bought the bulk fuel station in Maidstone, where she became famous for their customer appreciation days when she would BBQ burgers for 400-500 people. She worked with Gord and son Brett to start B & M Flushby and Coil Tubing.

Mars was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Lane, Cole, Chance, Ty, Chase, Ashtyn, Drayson, Landon, Jerica, Ward; and 4 great grandchildren, Mitch, Leia, Marshall and Emerie. Spending trips and lake time with the kids were some of her favourite memories.

When retirement came, they bought a home in St. George, Utah, where she enjoyed hiking, golfing, and spending time with friends. She got to enjoy for a few years, until a stroke caused vascular dementia, and she started her seven-year journey to today. Never complaining, she settled into lodge life with Gord, family and friends visiting most days. She passed peacefully with family by her side.

The Funeral Service for Marlene will be conducted from Maidstone United Church, Maidstone, SK on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at 11:00 am MST / 12:00 pm CST.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marlene may be made to Twin Rivers Heathcare Auxiliary - Maidstone.
