Aggie Wist

Obituary of Aggie Wist

Aggie Wist (neé Gour) was born to Raphaël & Olivia Gour (Rondeau) on January 2, 1935 in Shaunavon, SK. In search of work, the Gour family travelled from St. Boniface, MB to Shaunavon, SK, and then to North Battleford, SK, finally settling in their family home in Bonnyville, AB to be closer to Olivia’s parents. While visiting her parents in Edmonton, Aggie, as a young adult, met Mervyn Brown. It was there that Linda and Larry were born. Later, she moved to Hay River, NWT to be closer to her sister, Yvette. This is where Aggie met John Kostiuk. It was in Hay River where they raised Linda and their young family, Sheila, Brenda and John Lee. Aggie continued to move throughout AB, finally settling in Medicine Hat, where she met and married Dick Wist. Dick and Aggie then moved to Lloydminster for Dick’s work as a pipe-fitter at the heavy-oil upgrader (having an opportunity for Dick to work with his brother, Cliff Wist). They lived their final retirement years in Lloydminster, always busy with canning from their garden, hunting and fishing. They were continuously traveling throughout the provinces for yearly family get-togethers. Lots of wonderful memories.

Aggie celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this year, a milestone she was very proud of. Her gleaming smile reflects this. We are now saying our final goodbye as Aggie passed away April 6, 2025 at Lloydminster Hospital, SK.

She will be missed by: her brother, Henry Gour; daughters and sons-in-laws, Linda Brown, Sheila and Bill Francis, Brenda and Greg Van Riper; her only surviving son, John Lee Kostiuk; grandchildren, Dana and Justin Francis, Joel and Roman Van Riper, and Nicole Eirikson-Juro; great-grandchildren, Tesla Jessiman and Seth Eirikson-Juro, brother-in-law, Cliff Wist; and many members of the Wist family.

She is predeceased by: her husband, Richard (Dick), brothers, Laurent & Noel Gour; sisters, Yvette Lefebvre and Rita Wooldridge; son, Larry Brown; and grandson, Chad Eirikson.

The Family will be planning a Celebration of Life at a later date.
