Obituary of Rod Swanky
It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Rodney Rudolph Frederick Swanky on April 24th, 2025 in Devon, Alberta
Left to mourn his passing are his children: Coltin, Madison, Maclayne and Corey; sister, Wanda (Mike) O'Brien; brother, Ed (Melissa) Swanky with nephews Caydnce and Donovan; his loving partner, Heather Brown with Cody, Matthew and Samantha; and countless friends.
Rod was born and raised in Lloydminster, where he spent most of his life living, working and building lasting friendships. He was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Carol Swanky, whose legacy he carried on with pride. Rod built an expansive career in the oilfield industry, making his mark at companies such as Classic Oilfield, Corlac, PWM and C's Oilfield. In 2021, he moved to Devon, AB, where he quickly continued to carve out his own unique niche in the community, bringing the same energy and heart that defined him.
It's hard to narrow down Rod's many attributes, abilities and character in just a few words. Rod will be remembered for the ever-present mischievous twinkle in his eyes, his razor-sharp wit and the conversations he so effortlessly shared. Always willing to go on an adventure of any sort, have a drink with friends or offer a helping hand when needed. His love and protection for his family (two-legged and four-legged), loved ones and friends was unyielding.
He had a wealth of knowledge and Macgyverish ability to improve/fix just about anything. Never one to sit still, Rod was forever puttering around, keeping himself busy and dreaming up his next big idea. Loving activities like fishing, golf, hockey, poker, baseball or just sitting outside by a good fire.
Rod will be deeply missed. Nevertheless, to the ones left behind, always look to the laughter, love and adventure he brought to life as sometimes he could cause a little trouble – the good kind that you’d thank him for later. At Rod's request, there will not be a funeral. He never wanted anyone to be sad, just to be happy and smile with your own memories of Rod Swanky.
