Obituary of Evelyn Columbine
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Evelyn Columbine announce her peaceful passing on April 27 at the age of 64.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Roberta Hickie; her sisters, Elaine Shaw (High River) and Sandra Kennedy (Leduc); her mother and father-in-law, Art and Kay Columbine; sister-in-law, Sharon Germsheid; and brother-in-law, Ron Germsheid.
She was the devoted wife to Milt Columbine, loving mother to Shannon (Scott Dopko), and stepmom to Nathasha (Brad), her seven grandchildren Alyssa (Devin Sheinbein), Lexi, Jase, Gabrielle, Brandon, Cole, Allyson and two great grandchildren, Beau and Emmy-Grace, and her niece Christine Shaw. Christine held a special place in her aunt’s heart and her good friends, Jim and Tracy Ryall.
Mom was a kind and caring person who always put the needs of family and friends before her own, she had a huge heart. She was a hugger, and whenever you saw her, you know she would give you the tightest hug, even if she had just seen you the day before. It was a standing family joke to see how many times you could run away from “grandma’s hugs” at family gatherings.
She was a fierce woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity including her multiple battles with cancer. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren and most recently great grandchildren. They will all tell you that grandmas house was the best place to go for sleepovers. She always had your favourite snacks, loved playing games and watching a movie. It was the house you never wanted to leave, and you wanted that one-night sleepover to last all week. She will be greatly missed by all of them.
She was a source of inspiration to all of us, and our biggest cheerleader! She will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched. She installed the importance of family, hard work and doing what was right.
As per her wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of choice.
Mom, you will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
The family would like to thank Dr. Baiou for her care and compassion, as well as the third-floor nurses during her short stay in Lloydminster hospital.
