Obituary of Marjorie Emerson
It is with immense sadness that the family of Marjorie Emerson announce her passing on June 16, 2025 at the age of 91 years.
Marj was born on October 17, 1933 in Marshall, SK to parents, Stuart and Ava Ruttan. She grew up on the family farm near Lone Rock, SK and attended school in a one room school in Lone Rock.
Marj moved to Lloydminster to work in a bakery. Walking home one day, she met Sid Emerson whom she married on April 28, 1953. They made their home in Lloydminster where they raised four children while running their business - Emerson Construction. They had a wonderful 47 years together before Sid passed away.
Marj loved to go to church and helped with many events and activities at Grace United Church. She was an avid baker for both her family and the church booth at Lloydminster Exhibition. The family was not happy when she made pies for that booth as they did not get to eat them unless they visited the booth and bought some.
Marj enjoyed spending time with her kids and was an active participant in their sports and activities. When they were competing, you could hear her cheering very loudly, whether they were in the water, on the ice, on the track or coming down the hill. Trips home from competitions were always quiet, as Marj usually lost her voice. She was also there to offer everyone support in times of joy and sorrow, making sure all were well looked after with lunches, snacks and hot meals, while we worked, played and enjoyed other activities. Her expectation was that everyone be home for Sunday supper. She enjoyed judging Figure Skating for many years in both Saskatchewan and Alberta. She cared deeply for her parents during their later stages of life. In summer there were lots of trips to the lake where she visited with family and many others.
Marj is survived by: her sister, June Hiar; sisters-in-law Lorna (Dave) Elaschuk and Shirley (Ken) Abrams; children, Theresa Cummine, Marilyn (David) Dornstauder, John (Debbie) Emerson and Patrick (Kathleine) Emerson; grandchildren, Carrie Dornstauder (Aaron Lange), Ann-Marie (Issa) Traore, Angela (James) Jarosz, Philip Cummine, Deryk Emerson, Ashleigh (Josh) Quitely, Justin (Tara) McLean and Jerod (Angel Cooper) McLean; great grandchildren, Malika Traore, Madalyn Jarosz, Isla Jarosz, Nathan Jarosz, Kennedy (Austen) Wangler, Kirk (Tayla) Dornstauder, Brett Dornstauder (Shane Reid), Joelle Glassford, Cadence McLean, Adelaide McLean, Jersey Lange and Briggs Lange; great-great grandchildren, Haylen Wangler, Hadley Wangler, Maeve Wangler and Everly Reid; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
