The family of Sam Smysniuk, or Mr. S. as he was affectionately referred to by his students, is sad to announce his passing on Sunday, April 5th, 2026. 

Sam was born in Melville and grew up in the Ituna area on the family farm. Sam went to work in Alberta after graduating from high school, where he met his wife Lynn. Sam returned to Saskatchewan to pursue his degree in Education. Sam taught in Lashburn for almost 30 years before retiring. Over his career, he was most proud of the years he spent as a driver trainer.

Sam leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife Lynn; son, Jeff (Kari); daughter, Joanna (Jason); grandkids, Julia (Zachariah), Harvey (Ashlyn), Noah, and Claire; a great-grandchild, due shortly; siblings Nadia, Andrew (Elaine), John (Evelyn); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam was predeceased by: his parents, Sam and Mary; and brother-in-law, Eugene.

The family is asking for privacy at this time. Sam asked that there be no funeral. 

Donations can be made to Lloydminster Hospital or donor's choice in lieu of flowers.

The family would like to extend a sincere Thank You to the 3rd Floor Nurses, Doctors, and Care Team Members at Lloydminster Hospital for everything they did during Sam's stay in the hospital.
