Ethel Olson Obituary

Ethel Jean Olson, age 90, of Maidstone, SK passed away on May 6, 2026 at Maidstone Hospital.

Ethel was born in Deerhorn, MB, to William and Rose Lowery on April 29, 1936. She attended Deerhorn School up to Grade 9. On August 8, 1959, Ethel and Clarence were married in Stonewall, MB. They had two sons, Greg (born June 27, 1962) and Brian (born September 28, 1965).

They moved to Quesnel, BC in the spring of 1971, then to Calgary, AB for a short period in 1983, before settling in Maidstone, SK in the summer of 1984. She worked at Saint Boniface Hospital, an EA at a Calgary school, and later at Pine Island Lodge in Maidstone, SK.

She was beyond excited to become a grandma in 1999 and again in 2001. She spent many mornings spoiling her grandchildren with breakfast before school and later with lunches while they worked during the summer.

She enjoyed curling and bowling in her younger years and gardening and birdwatching as she grew older. She loved watching sports on TV, but especially enjoyed watching her grandson, Cooper play ball and her granddaughter, Alana play basketball.

Ethel is survived by: her husband of 66 years, Clarence; sons, Greg and Brian (Kerry); sister, Violet Mann (Kirby Hay); brothers-in-law, Don Allard and Ken Olson; sister-in-law, Betty (Al) Taylor; grandchildren, Cooper and Alana Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by: her parents, William and Rose Lowery; and siblings, David Lowery, Alice Benson, Kathleen Guadette, Bert Lowery, Herb Lowery, Bill Lowery and Terry Allard.

As per Ethel’s wishes, there will be no service.

Special thanks to Maidstone Homecare and Maidstone Hospital staff.

Donations in memory of Ethel may be made to Maidstone Health Care Auxiliary.
