BIOGRAPHY MADDEN: Deloris Ellen (Barthel) Madden passed away in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, with her family at her side on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the age of 68 years. Deloris was born on December 28, 1944 in Petawawa, Ontario. She was the second of six children born to Bessie (Morton) & Henry Barthel. Deloris received her education from Sandy Ridge and Makwa schools. On November 12, 1962 Deloris married Dale Madden. They started their married life farming in the Makwa community. In April of 1965, their first daughter, Debbie, was born. In the spring of 1966, they decided to move to Lloydminster where their second daughter, Rhonda, was born in August of that same year. In September of 1970, the family was made complete with the birth of their third daughter, Kim. Deloris and Dale moved a few more times before settling in St. Walburg in 1977. This is where they owned and operated their own business, Dale's Mechanicial, for the next 20 years. Deloris was an avid curling fan, watching both men's and women's tournaments on television. She was a wonderful cook and, like her mother before her, would always make plenty to share with others. She always planted a large garden and had a green thumb when it came to flowers. She loved to watch the deer and the many birds that came daily to feed on her front lawn. Deloris enjoyed many fishing and camping adventures with her children and grandchildren. Deloris and Dale took many trips over the years including a Mexican cruise, travelling to Ireland, and numerous fun trips to B.C. and into the United States. Deloris was grateful to have made a trip to Toronto in 1996 to meet her godmother, Ellen. Over the years, her family has continued to grow with the addition of eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Deloris was very proud of all the achievements of her children and grandchildren. She never missed a birthday or anniversary. She taught all her grandchildren to play crib, and as the true Irish lady she was, she loved to celebrate St. Patty's Day. Deloris was predeceased by her parents, Bessie & Henry Barthel; two brothers, Ken and Jerry; and her mother and father-in-law, Bernice & Pat Madden. Deloris will be sadly missed by her loving husband of fifty years, Dale; three daughters, Debbie (Robert) Svoboda, Rhonda Madden (John Hoglund), and Kim (Tim) Macnab; eight grandchildren, Stacey L'Heureux (Randy Meetoos), Charmayne L'Heureux (Jason Davidson), Amanda (Curtis) McGowan, Ben, Dan and Kelly Svoboda, and Vanessa and Evan Macnab; six great-grandchildren, Cory and Brielle Meetoos, Evelyn, Sophie and Katelyn Davidson, and Aiden McGowan; two brothers, Louis (Elaine) Barthel, and Doug (Joyce) Barthel; one sister, Marie (Randy) Propp; one aunt, Bernice (Willie) Krutow; two sisters-in-law, Annette Barthel, and Debbie Barthel; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A Gathering to Celebrate Deloris' life was held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. from the St. Walburg Parish Hall. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements.
