Obituary of Bert Wilson

Please share a memory of Bert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Proud, independent, humorous, and loyal ---- all words to describe a brave man who fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bert Wilson – born May 17, 1955, 2nd child of Tom and Pat Wilson, began his life on a mixed farm in Saskatchewan along with his 6 brothers and sisters. In Edmonton, he met and married Laurie Campbell. In 1980 his son Greg was born and 2 years later Amy completed their family. He continued to work and raise his children. He always loved animals. From his humble beginnings on the farm till his last best friend – Sasha his love for animals and especially German Sheppard dogs showed through. On the farm, Bert worked with Dad and Uncle Nelson with the cattle and the field work. He belonged to 4-H beef for a year once again expressing his love for animals through his hobbies. We all remember the time that the horse and the rider ended up between two granaries and off to the hospital for stitches to close the gash in his leg. Then there was all the wounded animals he brought home to fix up – like his pet owl that visited school without invitation and Bert once again had to come to the rescue. Bert’s love for animals just continued to grow nothing seemed to stop him. He took his schooling in Major, and after school tried his hand at several jobs before moving to Lloydminster where he began his career as a sheet metal worker with Bob Jacks Sheet Metal. He later moved to Edmonton to continue his career. His last employer was Montech Mechanical. He loved his job and continued to work up to the last few months of his life. The management and staff were so good to Bert and built that ramp for his scooter so he could roar down to Timmy’s for his coffee first thing in the morning. From tenting at Dillberry Lake to his cross Canada trip to camping at the lake with Amy and the boys – Bert loved camping. Content to cook over an open fire and enjoy nature Bert loved being out doors with family and friends in this relaxing environment. Bert loved to dance and in later years took dance lessons. He could cut a rug as good as anyone and gave many family and friends a twirl around the dance floor. On January 25, 2017, he lost his battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his 2 children Greg and Amy and their mother – Laurie, his pride and joy – his 2 Grandsons –Kaden and Connor. His mother Pat and his brothers and sisters – Kathy (Rick) Masters, Carol (Cliff) Epp, Don (Marlene), Lois (Howie) Watson, and Al. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and numerous friends and work colleges. He was predeceased by his father Tom and brother Scott. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Bert during his illness but especially Laurie, his little brother Don, the home care nurses and the caregivers from Norwood Centre. A memorial gathering will be held in the spring. Because of Bert’s love for animals – you may wish to make a donation in the memory of Bert to any SPCA or to the charity of your choice.
