Zita Currie passed away at the age of 77 on July 23, 2006 in the University Hospital in Edmonton, after a brief illness. Zita lived at the Southridge Estates in Lloydminster, Alberta. Zita was born in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, on September 10, 1928. She lived her early years during the Great Depression with her widowed mother, her 2 sisters, Alex and Yosel-Anne, while her brothers Andrew and William went off to war. As a young adult, Zita worked the telephone switchboard with her mother in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, until they were transferred to Silton, and then to Imperial where she continued to work the switchboard for many years. Zita met her husband, Harold, while living in Imperial, and they went on to marry on September 1, 1956 and have 3 sons. Harold was transferred to Hillmond in 1982, and Zita and their family joined him. When Harold retired, they returned to Imperial, where they stayed for several more years until they moved to Lloydminster to be closer to their family. Zita was a devoted wife, and a committed, loving mother and sister. She is predeceased by her husband, who passed in June of this year. September 1, 2006 would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. Also predeceasing her are her brother Andrew Wood and sisters Yosel-Anne Bernard and Alex Stattler. Her love and constancy will be sorely missed by her eldest son, Ken of Lloydminster and his wife Terra and their 2 children, Ryley and Dekker, her middle son Jarrett of Regina, and her youngest son Andrew of Ottawa and his partner Stacey Benedict. Also surviving Zita are her 2 other grandchildren Grant Currie and his wife Cherie who live in Edmonton and Tyler Currie of Lethbridge and her brother William Wood, who resides in Halifax. Grant and Cherie gave Zita 2 great-grandchildren, Maxim, and Ava, who's middle name, Zita, was given to honour her great-grandmother Funeral services were conducted in Lloydminster, on August 5, 2006 at the McCaw Funeral Home by Rev. D. Allan Young. Two of her sons, Ken and Andrew, and her grandson, Grant stood up to express how Zita impacted their lives and shared some fond memories. Afterwards, family and friends gathered at Ken's home in Lloydminster.
