It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Celia Joyce Bexson on September 1, 2011 at the Dr. Cooke Care Centre. Joyce will be sadly missed by her husband of nearly 64 years Art; five children: Kay and Meb, Bryan and Lana, Lyle and Margaret, Joe and Betty, Brent and Pam; thirteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and many close friends. Joyce was born July 16th, 1929 and grew up on the family homestead just east of Lloyd attending Trafalgar School till grade 8, as was the custom in the day. She then continued to help on the farm as well as went to work at the hospital in the kitchen and housekeeping. It was during this time that Joyce met Art while he was delivering milk to the hospital. They were married on November 12, 1947 and lived and raised a family in Lloydminster. Joyce was a talented homemaker providing nutritious meals, laundry services and all types of nursing, even to the stray pets the active children seemed to bring home! Raising 5 children was done with loving care in a very organized household. After the kids were older Joyce went to work at Nelsons cleaning new homes, then as a retail clerk at Eaton's and McLeod's stores. Joyce was a great cake decorator and did many a wedding cake as well as cakes for numerous birthday or anniversary celebrations. In 1962, Joyce and Art found the pastime that would fill the remainder of their lives with joy and great friendship, Square Dancing, for over 50 years. Joyce and Art were the glue that held the local club together and provided much exercise and enjoyment. Joyce sewed many a matching outfit for their dance travels. Square Dancing provided the inspiration for travels all over North America from Arizona to the North. The family enjoyed many a summer vacation in Penticton taking in the annual Jamboree. Joyce and Art attended 18 consecutive years and many more after that. In the last little while Joyce was not able to Dance but still enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of Square Dancing! Joyce was a lifetime member of the Legion ladies auxiliary and was active in the ACW and served the St. John's congregation as an usher and provided cakes and baking for lunches. Joyce's hearty laugh and infectious smile will be missed. The funeral service was conducted from the St. John's Anglican Church, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Canon Michael Stonhouse officiating. The eulogy was read by Joe Bexson. The hymns sung were "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow", "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's My Shepherd" accompanied on the organ by Pat Skinner. The honorary pallbearers were All Those Who Shared In Mom's Life. The active pallbearers were Joyce's Grandchildren. The interment was held in the Lloydminster City Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. Donations in Memory of Joyce may be made to the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation.
