Eulogy
Eileen was born December 8, 1929 in Lashburn, Saskatchewan to William and Beatrice (Fern) Kitching, the oldest daughter of two. Eileen and her sister Fern were direct descendants of the Barr Colonists. Their Grandfather and father (who was then only five years old) were members of the Barr Colonists that eventfully settled Lloydminster.
Eileens father died in 1936 when she was seven. Eric Velin than became Eileens stepfather in 1953.
Eileen attended the Wirral school and then graduated from the Lashburn High School in Lashburn in 1947. She later studied teaching at Normal School in Saskatoon from 1948 to 1949. She taught at a couple of the small schools in this area.
She married Ray Friedrick on January 17, 1951. Their three sons Bill, Dwayne and Dwight were born from 1952 to 1959. They farmed in the Burke School district before moving to a farm just a couple miles out of Lashburn in 1968.
Eileen willingly contributed to the community via volunteering, her work with the Marshall Rebeka, the Marshall Legion and many other events. The Marshall Rebeka recently honored her for 50 years of service as a founding charter member. On special role was that of a fortune teller at the Halloween parties at the Lashburn School.
Many peoples careers are usually paralleled by their true love of hobby or craft. Eileens was befriending and helping people. This was her true pursuit that she forged while teaching, working at Sears for many years, studying as a nursing aid, and working at the Mannville Hospital. A son was asked once Are you related to Eileen Friedrick? She tended to me when I was a scared sick kid in the Mannville Hospital. I am forever grateful for the care and comfort she provided me.
She continued this craft as she also traveled through many countries. It was during these travels that she fell in love with Mexico and in her true pursuit, she befriended many to develop a large extended family in Mazatlan. Eileen began living between Lashburn and Mazatlan for the past twenty years. Still lending a helping hand and being a mother to many, many people. She would spend time teaching her Mexican family English and then her grandchildren Spanish.
It seems we were just here to celebrate Ray Friedrick, and now Eileen. A shock to all, but all our lives are fuller due to her life. Eileen was a councilor, a friend, a confident and especially a loving mother not only to her immediate family but many other extended sons, daughters and friends. There were many of her sons friends that called Eileen Their other Mother. A determined person that did it HER WAY! Even in having a hand at planning her own memorial.
A mother, a grand mother, a sister, and a friend that is and will be missed by many.
Hasta que nos encontramos nuevamente Elena (Till we meet again Eileen)
A note from Eileen Richardson
When Eileens family asked me if I would send some thoughts to read today, my mind went into a tail spin. However, I have gathered this together and would like to share with Eileens family and all of you these words.
How do you write when you feel empty?? I know that I am not alone in this emptiness but I have lost the dearest, most loyal and trusted friend anyone could ever have. But, I know that I must open the Book of Memories and treasure every moment that I was so lucky to share with Eileen.
Our friendship developed when we were both newly married and living on the farm. We spent many evenings enjoying dinner, playing cards while our babes slept anywhere they could lay down. We went to all the dances we could find. Had parties for Birthdays, Christmas, New Years and any time we could find an excuse to celebrate. We had all the fun we could possibly have!!!
Eileen and I shared a wonderful month holiday in Europe. It was a Blast even though she slept every day on the bus as she took Gravol for car sickness. I would say, Look, Look and she would grunt at me and go back to sleep! We often went to Lloydminster and we knew it was said There come those terrible two Eileens again.
Eileen had a heart of gold. Her door was always open and everyone was welcome. On the farm, in town and in Mazatlan it was Come in, the coffee is on and the beer is in the fridge. She knew everyone coming and going on her street in Mazatlan and they always stopped for a chat and a drink.
She and I were always in touch either by phone or e-mail and I shall miss her goofy jokes on the net. She used to bless the computer because it couldnt spell and neither could she when she was using it!!!
I would like to close with some thoughts Eileen sent to me
When you are sad -------------------- I will dry your tears
When you are scared ---------------- I will comfort you
When you are worried -------------- I will give you hope
When you are confused ------------- I will help you cope
When you are lost ------------------- And cant see the light
I shall be your beacon -------------- shining ever so bright
Why you may ask??? Because you are my FRIEND.
Good-bye my FRIEND Eileen from Eileen.
Eileens family wishes to thank everyone for their support, flowers, cards and donations.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a Charity of the Donor's choice.
