Obituary of Robert Peterson

PETERSON: Robert Peterson passed away peacefully at his home at Murphy Lake, Saskatchewan on Thursday, April 21, 2005 at the age of 80 years. Robert Peterson was born at home in the North Gully District to August and Ally Peterson on Sept. 30, 1924. He was the youngest of four children. He walked to the North Gully School for his education and to a neighbor, Mr. Pensome, for violin lessons with his brother Arnold. After leaving school he farmed along side his Dad until his passing in 1954 and with his brother Arnold until they both retired in the spring of 1991. In April 1980 Robert experienced the passing of his mother whom he had lived with all his life. In December 1980 Margaret Hunt came and stayed by to help Robert on the farm. Robert loved travelling across Canada from Ontario to the BC Coast. The BC fruit season was a yearly highlight for him. His love of fishing helped him make trips faithfully every summer to Loon Lake and influenced his decision to build his retirement home at Murphy Lake which became his permanent home in 1992. In his younger years Robert enjoyed curling every winter, bringing home many trophies. Right to the end he enjoyed woodworking. This is evident in the plant stands, ornamental shelves and knock knacks he created with his saw, lathe and router. His largest project was the building of his cabin at Murphy Lake. The last few years if you couldn’t find him at home puttering around the yard you knew that he and Margaret were at the latest auction sale in the area checking out the bargains to be had. Robert was predeceased by his parents August and Ally Peterson; brother Edgar; sister Alice Fisher; brother-in-law Charlie Fisher and sister-in-law Marie Peterson. He is survived by his brother Arnold and wife Mary of Lloydminster; special friend Margaret Hunt of Murphy Lake; Alice’s children: John and Eunice Fisher of Saskatoon; Donna and Brian Sheppard of Lloydminster; Winifred Rutherford and Friend Don Hanson of Sydney, BC; Tom and Myrna Fisher of Lloydminster; David and Linda Fisher of Lloydminster; Edgar’s daughter Karen Orr of California; Arnold’s children Sandra and Dennis Herle of Lloydminster; Lynda and Darrel Thompson of Lloydminster; Deb and Harry Matwishyn of Prince Albert; Margaret’s children Frieda Reimer of Thompson, Manitoba; Anna Leveque of Lloydminster; Aaron Hunt of Penticton, BC; Katy Keillor of Meadow Lake; good friend and neighbor Angel Piper and everyone’s families. A funeral service for Robert was conducted from the McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Major Ron Mailman officiating. The eulogy was given by Lynda Thompson and David Fisher. The musical selections were “I Will Remember You,” “Where The Roses Never Fade,” and “I Am Going.” A memorial service for Robert was conducted from the Loon Lake Rec Centre, Loon Lake, Saskatchewan on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Barbara Tracey officiating. The eulogy was given by Katy Keillor and Lynda Thompson. The musical selections were “I Will Remember You,” and “Where The Roses Never Fade. A family interment service was held at the Lloydminster City Cemetery on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. with Sandra Herle officiating. On April 21, 1875 Grandpa (August) Peterson entered this world.
