Obituary Johnson, Sadie With great sadness the family of Sadie Johnson announce her passing on Thursday, March 17th at Dr Cooke Extended Care Centre in Lloydminster, Ab. She was 87 years old. Sadie was born July 21st, 1917 in Lloydminster, to Bert and Olive Hawkins. She grew up on their homestead east of Lloydminster with her sister and three brothers. After attending school she decided to study home economics at Vermillion College and there met Jim Johnson of Maidstone, Sask. They married in October 1940 and moved to the family farm north of Maidstone where they resided for most of their lives. In May 1943 they were surprised to learn that the baby they were expecting was twins. Margaret and Martin kept her busy in those early years along with cooking and caring for threshing crews and hired men. In 1954, Sadie was stricken with polio and lost the use of her legs as well as partial paralysis in one arm. She was always a fighter and through pure determination and positive thinking regained the use of her arm and one leg. Although she remained handicapped for the rest of her life, she resolved to live her life as normally as was possible and she did! Sadie was a dedicated wife to Jim and a great mother for Martin and Margaret. She was always there for her family and together with Jim formed a strong foundation for her kids to build their lives on. She loved spending time with her five grandchildren after they arrived, and in later years doted upon her great grandchildren. The country life was the perfect life for Sadie. She was a farmer at heart, and even until recent months kept a daily diary chronicling the weather. She loved her gardens and took a great deal of pride in them, especially the flowers beds. She was a very good cook and also enjoyed knitting and needlework. Sadie was a member of the Legion and took an active part in the Ladies Auxiliary. She also contributed whenever she could in Milleton Hall events and other local activities Sadie will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends and acquaintances Sadie is survived by her son Martin (Dawn) Johnson of Maidstone, Sask; daughter Margaret Trawick (Al Jenik) of Calgary, Ab.; Grandchildren: Dale Johnson of Calgary, Ab.; Leanne Johnson of Saskatoon, Sask.; Bryan Trawick of Calgary, Ab.; Randy Trawick of Calgary, Ab.; Heather Trawick of Vancouver, B.C.; Great-grandchildren: Chase Milligan of Saskatoon, Sask.; Ashley Johnson of Calgary, Ab.; Sister-in laws: Eunice Hawkins of Saskatoon, Sask.; Alice Hawkins of Prince Albert, Sask.; Three nephews and four nieces: Allan( Marg) Hawkins of Kamloops, B.C.; Avis ( Bernie) White of Manotick, Ont.; Neil(Tammy) Hawkins of Edmonton, Ab.; Carolyn (Lynn) Macintosh of Edmonton, Ab.; Rodger (Mildred) Hawkins of Calgary, Ab.; Lucille (Jon) Lamb of Saskatoon, Sask.; Joyce Schuberg of Salem, Oregon.
