Obituary of Peggy Wooff

Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wooff, Peggy Jean (March 29, 1947- February 18, 2005) Forever remembered for her kindness and compassion, Peggy passed away peacefully in Turtleford with her family by her side on Friday, Feb 18. Peggy was born in Livelong, SK and grew up on the family farm. Some of her fondest memories included riding her Shetland pony the five miles to Livelong school and putting up hay with her dad. At an early age she met her future lifetime partner, Henry, at a Saturday night dance at Turtle Lake (rumour has it he dazzled her with his knowledge of physics). Peggy graduated from Turtleford High School in 1965 and went on to obtain her degree in Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan. It was here she met many of her lifelong friends. She was awarded the gold medal for having the highest marks in her graduating class. She married Henry in her final year of training. From Saskatoon, they moved to Turtleford, SK where she worked at the Turtleford hospital for a number of years. Nursing was her passion! It was obvious to those whose lives she touched how much she loved the profession. In 1972 Carma was born and in 1974 they had Blair. It was then that Peggy decided to stay home to raise her family with a wish to return to her career some day. Their family was completed with the addition of Jennie in 1978 and Jill in 1981. Summers were spent at the lake camping, swimming, fishing, boating, and sitting around the campfire at night. Often winters included snowmobiling, tobogganing, skiing and the occasional family vacation to a warm destination. Her family had become forevermore her strongest passion. For many happy years Peggy worked lovingly and tirelessly raising her kids and supporting a growing family farm. In her late 30’s, Peggy began a lifelong struggle with her physical health. For twenty years she bravely lived with lupus and its effects. Much is revealed in the face of such an ordeal and Peggy will be remembered for her undying optimism, faith and kindness. During this time she became part of a close-knit group of friends in the Turtleford and surrounding communities who were a constant source of support, encouragement and birthday luncheons. In Peggy’s last year of life she was diagnosed with cancer. The last few months of her life were difficult but the devotion, care and support from Henry was what allowed her to go on. The highlights of this were daily phone calls with her kids and friends, time spent with her grandson, Carson, scrabble games with Henry, and a wonderful last Christmas with all of her family. Peggy is survived by: her loving husband Henry: four children: Carma (Stan) Friesen of Warman, SK; Blair Wooff of Saskatoon; Jennie (Bryan) Ward of London, ON; Jill (Tyler) Sandwick of Saskatoon; one grandson Carson; one step granddaughter Niki Cochran; one brother Blake (Dorothy) Johnson of Livelong; one sister Colleen (Cal) Cottam of Turtleford. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Merle and Elsie Johnson and her brother Dale. A heartfelt thank-you to all of Peggy’s friends for their unwavering love and support and to the community of Turtleford. A time of celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at the Turtleford Community Centre on Tuesday, February 23, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. C.S.T. Donations in memory of Peggy may be made to the Riverside Health Complex in Turtleford.
