Obituary of John Brown
B I O G R A P H Y
BROWN: John Templeton Brown passed away in the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre, Lloydminster, Alberta on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the age of 95 years.
John was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland on August 31, 1909. He came to Canada with his family in May 1924 and farmed in Rutland, Saskatchewan. They moved to Senlac, Saskatchewan a couple of years later. They farmed and did custom work threshing and buzzing wood. John worked on a ranch in Merritt, B.C. for awhile. He received a medal for weight lifting in Vancouver while he was there. He married Reeta Trodd on December 4, 1943 and farmed until he retired in 1974 after which they traveled extensively.
John was very active in the community and was Reeve in the RM of Senlac. He was a member of the Forresters, School Board and Wheat Pool.
John loved dancing and traveled many miles to go square dancing. He also enjoyed gardening, working in his shop, reading and traveling.
John and Reeta moved to Lloydminster in 2001 and continued to go back to the farm in the summer until his health failed and he moved to the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre.
John is survived by: his loving wife of 61 years Reeta; his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Malcolm (Donna) and their family: Michelle (Curtis), Easton and; Devyn; Greg (Carla), Caleb and; Jax; Cam (Sara) Gloria (Frank) Laverty and their family: Merrian (Craig), Wade, and Vernon Gordon and his family: Curtis (Ami), Gage, Garrett; Danae; Ian (Heather) Brown; Sister-in-law Eva Mills as well as numerous nieces and nephews
John was predeceased by: his parents Matt and; Elizabeth Brown; his sister Agnes and; Allen Birtle; his brother Matt and; Agnes Brown; his brother-in-law Lloyd Mills and sister-in-law: Stella and Stanley Vogan.
The funeral service for John was conducted from the Senlac Community Hall, Senlac, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 3:00 P.M. C.S.T. with Pastor Doug Middleton officiating.
A eulogy was given by Michelle Brown-McLean ad; Danae Brown.
The hymn sung was "In The Garden"; accompanied on the piano by Bobbi-Jean May.
Honorary pallbearers were: Tom Nuttall, Grant Manchester, Garry Bradshaw, Ken Brownlee, Neil Forbes and Ken Mawbey as well as all those who shared in John's life.
Active pallbearers were Grandchildren: Merrian Laverty, Wade Laverty, Vernon Laverty, Michelle Brown-McLean, Greg Brown, Cameron Brown, Curtis Brown and Danae Brown.
Interment was held before the service in the Senlac Cemetery.
McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster administered the funeral arrangements.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Chapelski for all his care. We would also like to thank the staff at the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre, Jubilee Home and St. Joseph's Health Centre for their kindness and everything they did to make Dad feel at home while in residence there.
Thank you to Doug and Becky Middleton for their comforting words and for performing the service, Bobbi Jean May for the lovely music, the guest book attendants Joan Forbes and Evelyn Mawbey, ushers Blake Holden and Clark Johnson, Ken Murrell for looking after the cemetery arrangements and the honorary pallbearers. Thank you to the grandchildren for taking Grandad to his final resting place. He would have liked that very much. Michelle and Danae you gave a wonderful eulogy.
