B I O G R A P H Y HUNTER: Margaret Alma (Jacobson) Hunter passed away in the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Center, Lloydminster, Alberta on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the age of 92 years. Margaret is survived by: her husband Roy; two sons: Eric Jacobson of Lloydminster, Ronald A. Jacobson and his wife Jeanne of Penticton; one daughter Nancy and her husband Ken McGerrigle of the Harlan District; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as one sister Rose Semerad of Parksville, BC. The funeral service for Margaret was conducted from the McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta on Wednesday, November 24 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Harold Martin officiating. A eulogy was given by Jack Tyner. It is an honor for me to have been asked to bring a few thoughts and memories of Margaret Hunter. I said to Roy the other day “forgive me if I sometimes call her Mrs. Jacobson,” he said, “It happens all the time.” Margaret was born October 10, 1912 to Mr. & Mrs Henry Joy who lived north of Marwayne on the farm where the Gib Mathison’s now live. She had two brothers, Alan and Henry, one sister Rose. Her dad had the only real orchard in these parts. Margaret grew up and attended school in the Elgen district. In 1933 she married Harold Jacobson and went to live in the Willowlea district. They had three children, Eric, Ron and Nancy. Margaret was a very organized person with a schedule of jobs lined up one for each day of the week. They had a huge ice house that Harold filled with blocks of ice from the lake. It had a screened in cupboard where Margaret stored pies, cakes etc. on Friday, which was baking day. Margaret picked and canned and pickled in every spare minute. Margaret was a superb cook and an accomplished seamstress. A gift she passed on to Nancy. She enjoyed working with crafts, especially wood work with the fret saw, doing fancy wall ornaments etc. She made me a set of four wooden horses that I enjoyed for years. Many of you will remember the log playhouse she constructed where a lot of us played and drank homemade rootbeer and ate mountains of cookies. Eric tells of a time he and Ronnie lost a battle with a skunk and Ma washed their clothes including their straw hats which she put in the oven to dry and forgot them and burnt them black, I think Eric still wears his when he’s haying. Harold passed away in 1960. Margaret and Roy were married in 1964 and they began spending their winters in BC and coming home to housekeep for Eric and help with the farm work in the spring. They spent as much time on fishing trips as they could. It was an activity they both thoroughly enjoyed. She still kept uP with her pickling and canning until she was no longer able too. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Roy. Her sons Eric, Ron and his wife Jeanne and their children Harold and Tammy; her daughter Nancy and her husband Ken McGerrigle and their children Heather, Sharon and Colleen, ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and her sister Rose. She was a devoted wiFE, mother and grandmother. A solo "Amazing Grace," was sung by Marlene Risling. Hymns sung were "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied on the organ by Donna Weston. Active pallbearers were: Chris Dyck, Randy Mark, Harold Jacobson, Ron Person, Wade Pinder and Calvin Pinder. Interment followed in the Lloydminster City Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd. of Lloydminster administered the funeral arrangements.
