Obituary of Gregory Payne

Please share a memory of Gregory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gregory George Payne, 51, died suddenly of heart failure on November 8, 2008 in Mazatlan, Mexico. Born on January 28, 1957 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. Greg was the eldest son of Bernard and Mona Payne of Lloydminster. Greg attended school in Lloydminster and then worked for the Alberta Liquor Control Board for many years until the government privatized the stores. He then joined the private business sector. He enjoyed watching and playing many sports and games particularly a competitive game of horseshoes or Texas Hold'em. He would be the first to organize a tournament at a family gathering. Greg was a compassionate man that was often willing to change his plans to help his mom dig potatoes, help build someone's deck or keep a cousin company on a road trip. He loved Mexico and spoke of retiring in Mazatlan. He was extremely proud of his boys, Kevin, Chad and Shawn and two little granddaughters, Haley and Codie. His mother and father; three sons; Kevin (Carmen), Chad (Cassie), and Shawn; two granddaughters; five brothers and their wives; Brad (Janice), Harvey (Susan), Rocky (Debbie), Mark (Doris) and Scott (Jackie) survive him. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends. A private memorial service was held on Monday, December 1, 2008 to celebrate his life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in his honour be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lloydminster Health Foundation. Thanks is extended to McCaw Funeral Service and to everyone that expressed condolences, offered support and made donations during this difficult time. An additional thank-you to all those who were a part of Greg's life. We are all influenced by those we meet, love and share our lives with. Thank you. We will miss you "Freddy". Donations in memory of Greg may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Lloydminster Regional Health Foundation.
