Working with Bob when he was Minister of Highways, and helping out in the '82 election campaign, I came to know him as a sometimes patient man, but always as someone who knew where he wanted to go, and what he wanted to accomplish. Although I had not seen him in more than 10 years, and was unable to attend the service, I will think of him and the time of spent with him and remember what a gentle giant he was. We once toured an elementary school in Cut Knife, and a child asked: "Gee, Mr. Long, how tall are you?" To which Bob replied, with a twinkle in his eye: "I'm five-foot twenty-one!"

To Bob's family: Bob, you made us all proud - all of us who attended Mannix Rural School with you - when you went from road grader operator, during the summer school-holiday months, to Minister Of Highways for Saskatchewan! That could not have been an easy leap and you clearly earned it with your community-minded spirit that was so admirable and laudable. Sorry I will not be able to attend your memorial service but you will be in my thoughts and mind.

Dear Murray & Marlyss, Beth,Donna,Linda & Jim & familes, I would like for you all to know I am thinking of you and I want to pass on my condolences to you all. Murray & Marlyss in my teenage years both you and your Mom & Dad were a big part of my life as they worked & I baby sat & played with you both. I learned lots from your Mom & your Dad. Your Mom would make up the pancake mix & I would try to cook them right & then try to hide the burnt side down & Murray soon caught onto that. I also remember one Sat evening when Murray & Marlyss were little & Bob was busy on the phone & Joyce was still sleeping so I thought we could all go to the barn, play with kitties & milk the old black cow, well she stepped in the bucket then booted it at us and we were all there upset & in tears, not to mention no milk.Your Dad just laughed & laughed, I was insulted because I knew how to milk a cow!!! All those Sunday suppers at Grandma & Granpa Long's with the May's were always eventful. They helped to teach me how to manage lots of confrontations & sometimes it was Marlyss & I versus 5 boys. Someday we will visit Sandy Penny

To Bob's family & friends - I will always remember Bob stimulating others to action! He was a 'gentle' man with a vision not only for his local community but for Sask. I admired his commitment, his wit & his determined diligence along his political journey. I was 1 of many to be inspired to actually work the election campaigns in western Canada. I pray you will find comfort in listening to the stories of how Bob enriched so many people over the years. God bless each of you with comfort & peace through your up coming days on the horizon!
