Obituary of Alice Duffee
Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alice Elizabeth Duffee was born at Paynton, Sask. on August 08, 1916 and following a brief time in the Shepherd's Care facility in Edmonton, Alberta she passed away quietly on May 25th, 2012 at Shepherd's Care.
Mourning the loss of a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are: two sons Russell (Stephania) of St, Albert, and Bill (Lois) of Meota, Sask.; four grandchildren Sean (Rhonda) of Calgary, Russ (Karen) of Calgary, Nicole (Chris) of Burnaby, and Kirk (Erin) of Sherwood Park; seven great grandchildren Caelyn, Taylorshea, Teaghen, Morrgan and Ayden Duffee of Calgary, Carmen Duffee of Sherwood Park and Elizabeth MacKenzie of Burnaby, BC; also two sisters-in-law, Helen Duffee of Waldheim, Sask. and Phyllis Ochs of North Battleford, Sask.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Loryen, her parents Bill and Agnes Willett and her brother Jim.
On June 1, 2010 a funeral service was held in Maidstone Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Cottrill officiating. Beth Cottrill was the pianist as we sang the hymns, "How Great Thou Art," and "The Old Rugged Cross." A special selection, Beyond The Sunset, was sung by Henry and Joan Sawatzky.
The pallbearers were: Jim Duffee, Sean Duffee, Russ Duffee, and Kirk Duffee, Larry Worman and Gordon Kennedy.
Following the interment at Maidstone Cemetery relatives and friends were invited to share lunch and a time together at the Drop-In.
Alice and Loryen shared the experiences of a marriage of 67 years, army service, farming, service station operation, oil well contracting, school teaching and finally, retirement, first in Maidstone and later in St. Albert. For many years Alice had attended the Maidstone Baptist Church playing the piano for most of those years and was a member of the Senior Citizen Centre of Maidstone. She enjoyed music and participated in many concerts and functions.
Thanks and gratitude are extended to Shirley Yeo for her assistance and support with the funeral service, Bob Cottrill for the officiating, the pianist Beth Cottrill, and Henry and Joan Sawatzky, for the special music, the ladies who provided lunch, relatives and friends. To all who honored us by their care and concern we are deeply grateful.
