Eulogy (Summarized)
Mom, Margaret Campbell, was born October 30, 1909 in Corinne, Saskatchewan. This was a temporary home as the family traveled from Iowa to homestead just north of Kindersley, Saskatchewan. As the middle child of nine, she enjoyed the warmth and excitement of a loving family and enduring a pioneer life typical of that era.
After high school, she went to Normal School in Saskatoon and started a twelve-year career as a capable and popular teacher in various rural Saskatchewan communities. She lived the life, in charge of a one-room school, that all of us have heard stories about. In Coleville she met Ken Dumouchel and they were married in 1941. After several years in Coleville and Mayfair, the family of five moved to Lloydminster in 1955.
Mom was actively involved at Grace United Church in Christian Education, UCW, various Church Committees, and the Fair Booth. Her interest in leadership in UCW evolved to significant participation regionally with the St. Paul Presbytery, and provincially with Alberta Conference.
In the community at large, Mom was a substitute teacher, teacher librarian, and an elected Public School Board member. She volunteered at Jubilee Home and did a significant amount of knitting for African children. Mom and Dad were enthusiastically involved at Fellowship Village for over twenty-five years.
Lloydminster has been a great community for our family to live in. It is basically the same traveling time to Kindersley, Biggar, Saskatoon, and Edmonton and even Loon Lake on a really bad day in the old Deer Creek Ferry days.
Traveling adventures were goals Mom and Dad planned and worked hard for. Moms favorites were tours to Europe including the Holy Land. Trips to Hawaii and Florida generated special memories and regular March vacations in Victoria were highly anticipated for several years. Most of their traveling, however, was done by car with sight seeing and visiting family as the main goals. From California, Washington, and BC in the west, Iowa in the South, and Ontario and the Maritimes in the east, they covered a lot of territory.
Mom was always a gardener. A large garden on the family farm was an integral part of their survival and having her own garden was a natural way to support her family. She was famous for her roses at Fellowship Village and this reflected her attitude towards life. Mom would suggest that you can choose to be upset that roses have thorns or choose to be blessed that bushes with thorns can have roses.
Mom always encouraged us to leave things better than we found them. She has left her part of the world a better place in which to live. She often said to others, Thank you, until you are better paid. Her rewards in Heaven have been well earned. I have every confidence that she will hear what we all want to hear; Well done good and faithful servant.
Thank you to all the people who supported and / or cared for Mom in the last six years. Thanks to everyone who attended her funeral and supported us with cards, flowers, personal messages, memorial donations, and food. We appreciated Pastor Pat Ribey and the Grace Choir for leading the service, and the Lunch Committee for arranging lunch.
Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the Grace United Church, Pioneer Lodge or to the Dr. Cooke Patient Comfort Fund.
