Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McKone ~ George McKone passed away early, Sunday, May 15, 2011 with his daughters at his side. George Ronald McKone was born November 17, 1930. He went to a one-room school house in Tyrone. He farmed in the Tyrone district and married Mary Grant on June 17th, 1954. Together, George and Mary had four children - Kay, Brenda, Grant and Arleen - before the family lost Mary in 1991 and Grant in 1999. After taking up square-dancing in 1998, George met Hazel and the two of them spent many happy years both at Turtle Lake and in Saskatoon since marrying in September 1999. George is survived by his loving wife, Hazel: daughter Kay (Rupert) Tarleton and their children: Trent (wife Heather and son Cole) and Holly; daughter Brenda (Ken) Ingalls and their children Tess (fiancé Darcy McLeod), Raelene and Karena; daughter Arleen McKone (John Kirkpatrick). Also mourning his loss are many stepchildren and step grandchildren. George's passions included community involvement, politics and his family. He was a loyal Liberal and worked endless hours for them. He also worked very hard for the community and was especially proud of his contribution to getting a new high school, track and tennis courts in Lashburn. George was patriotic and believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing well and placed a high value on education. He was also honest to a fault and gave sound advice even when we didn't want to hear it. In short, George was a good man and a great father. He will be missed. CARD OF THANKS The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at both the St. Paul's and City Hospital's in Saskatoon for their compassionate care.
