Obituary of Dora Marion Stringer

STRINGER ~ Dora Marion was born May 21, 1921 to David and Maud Oliver of the North Bend District. Marion passed away in the Lloydminster Hospital on June 16, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Marion was born prematurely at 2 ½ lbs on the way to the hospital, the fourth child of David and Maud, and sister to George, Bob and Jim. She attended the North Bend School on horseback and wagon., a five mile journey. Later, she worked for Henry and Emily Stringer, where she met her future husband. Four years later, William and Marion were married on July 7, 1946 at St. John's Anglican Church in Lloydminster. Together they raised four children, Russell, David, Gwen and Elaine and farmed and ranched for 47 years. Marion enjoyed the farm, cattle and horses, skating, tobogganing and cross-country skiing. She was an avid gardener, canned and froze fruit and vegetables, picked berries, baked, sewed and embroidered. Marion also was a member of the Norbian Ladies Club, the Hillmond Arenaettes, Hillmond Figure Skating Club and later enjoyed painting with the Allied Arts in Lloydminster. She enjoyed traveling to the Rockies, Banff, Vancouver and several trips to New Brunswick to visit Bill's sister, Joan and her family. Marion's grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy, playing checkers, chinese checkers and bowling with them! Marion was predeceased by her parents, David Oliver in 1952 and Maud (Jacob) Oliver in 1964; half sister Bella Noble; brothers: George, Bob and Jim Oliver; husband, Bill in 1993; and sisters: Margaret Horton and Maud Appleton. She is survived by sons: Russell Stringer and David (Gaylene) Stringer or the Albion District; daughters: Gwen (Jack) Klassen of Shell Lake, Sk and Elaine (Steve) Newman of Hillmond; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was conducted from St. John's Anglican Church with Reverend Canon Michael Stonhouse officiating on June 24, 2013. Grandsons, Aaron Marlatt and Dustin Newman gave the eulogy. Shaun Newman read PS 23. The hymns sung, "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" were accompanied by organist Pat Skinner. Soloist, Darlene Laumbach sang "It Is Well With My Soul." The active pallbearers were grandchildren: Nathan Stringer, Merrilee Stringer, Brendan Marlatt, Melody Marlatt, Michelle Marlatt, Jason Newman, Jaqueline Harray and Harley Newman. Interment was held in the Albion Cemetery. The reception was held in the North Bend Hall. Donations in memory of Marion may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to Lloydminster Palliative Care. Thank you to the Paradise Hill Care Home, Dr. Cooke Extended Care, Lloydminster Hospital, Dr. Gerber and Dr. Kerlis, Reverend Canon Michael Stonhouse, St. John's Anglican Church, soloist Darlene Laumbach and McCaw Funeral Service for administering the funeral arrangements.
