Please share a memory of Eva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eva Skoreyko June 29, 1918 ~ April 5, 2011 EULOGY Family and friends - we are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Eva Skoreyko. In 1938, Eva Taschuk married Harry Skoreyko and made their first home in Ispas, Alberta. In 1939, they were blessed with their first daughter, Shirley and in 1943, Judy was hatched. The family moved to Streamstown in 1947, where they bought a 1/4 of land and started farming. Harry was also employed for many years with the Canadian Pacific Railroad. Eva was also an active member of the Streamstown Ladies Club and participated in much of their events. Eva helped farm and also had a big garden to tend to. She sold a lot of her raspberries in which she grew in her garden. Eva had a lot of hobbies which included sewing. She made all of Judy's costumes for tap dancing, skating and acrobats. She also sewed Ukrainian dancing costumes for Shirley's girls and also sewed for the skating club. She enjoyed reading when she still had her sight and did a lot of crafts and hobby work. Shirley left home after taking a business course and both of the girls married and made lives for themselves. Eva was known to cook up a storm when the girls and their families and friends would come for the weekend. She always had an open door for family and friends. Eva was also known for her temper. Mark remembers one time when Eva was planting trees behind the house and he volunteered to cook supper. Well he somehow managed to burn the potatoes in grandma's "NEW" enamel pot and soon found out that grandma could swear pretty good in Ukrainian. After Harry's passing in 1978 - Eva moved to Lloydminster and lived at Glenwood Village. She moved to Westlock for a year but decided that she wanted to be closer to home so she moved back to Glenwood. After slowly losing her sight, she moved back out to the farm to live with Judy. Eva loved the farm, the fresh air, the sounds of the cattle mooing, and especially enjoyed her walks with Susan and the boys. After realizing that it was too hard to stay on the farm she moved into Points West and in 2010 she moved over to the Dr. Cooke Nursing Home. She looked forward to, and enjoyed visits from family and friends during her stay at Dr. Cooke. Eva had a heart of gold and always put family first. She loved to be teased by the grandchildren, whether it was telling her a story that wasn't true or just tickling her ear and having her think something was crawling on her. Nana you will be sadly missed by all. To her grandchildren: Mark and Lori, Shannon, Lisa and Darren and to her very, very special great grandchildren: Colton, Ty, Kayla and Justine - hold your fond memories of Nana close to your heart as I know she is doing the same. We all cherished the moments we had with her and will never forget the memories. Eva leaves to mourn her sisters: Jenny of Westlock and Elsie of Smokey Lake and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; daughter Shirley Sturko and her children: Shannon Sturko, Lisa and Gary Power, Darren Sturko, and her great grandchildren: Justine and Kayla Power all of the Edmonton area; daughter Judy Draves and her children: Mark and Susan Draves, Lori and John Chichak and her great grandchildren: Colton and Ty Draves of the Lloydminster and Streamstown area.
