To all the Family There are so many things you could say about Norman. I only spent time with Norman on three separate occasions but they left a lasting impression on me. Norman was with us in the Yukon after Tim had passed away. While we were there he and I would walk every morning to the coffee shop. One morning the coffee shop was late in opening by one hour. When Norman and I finally got in we asked what the problem had been? They replied that the cook was "over hung". Norman laughed for awhile at that. Another time when I was visiting Norman at his ranch, he let me drive his truck. I asked Norman why was his truck was so dirty? He said that when you drive in the bush the dirt protects the truck from getting scratched. I felt bad for Melva, so I took the truck to the car wash and washed the passenger side of the truck only. Norman got a big kick out of that. All the Family was very good to me, and I always ask Louella how everyone is doing. Norman was a man that you could never forget. I don't believe Norman would want us to be sad that his life is over here, because I believe he is roping horses where he is now, and telling stories about how proud he is of all his family. Norman will be dearly missed but always remembered. Keep on riding my friend, Paul

To Mel and Family, I was lucky enough to meet Mel and & Norm and the kids when I was a young boy. Norm, well, was a special man, as someone said, he meant what he said and you knew it, there were not many excesses, it was getter done, that was Norm. Being a young boy, and being around Norm well he scared me a few times and if you where there on the farm, you might as well be working. He would get me to do jobs only I thought big people could do. But he would say things like there nothing you can’t do if you put your mind to it. Quitting was not in his vocabulary. Being a young boy he seemed tough has nails, big as life. One of those cowboys from the movies but he was real! I always felt safe with Norm even though he scared me a bit at times I know that sounds strange but true, hard to explain. As I got older I understood the things he was trying to teach me. Norm had a gentle side and a sense of humor that was as special, as the man himself. I came to love the farm like a second home. All the dogs, those mean gees, swans whatever they were, would send me and the dogs running for our lives, the big horses that I could walk under. I remember Norm and Mel and Bonnie might have been there to, rode their horses into town and into our back yard. I looked out the window and there they were, in my back yard on horses! It was the coolest thing ever! When I would stay out there, it became my home to and they made sure of that. I love the farm and love Mel and Norm. There was always a sense of freedom running around there. I think most kids today do not know. There was some sad times to when a beloved animal would die, it would hurt me as a young boy, upset me but I knew it was ok to feel that way when I would see that same thing in Norms eyes to, Him, being so tough and all. My regret is not getting back there enough when I got older. Being busy, making ends meet, chasing the brass ring and time goes by too fast and before you know it, too many years have gone by. But when I think back, Mel my second Mom and Norm, the farm was never far from me; it was a special place and will always be. I wish I could go back in time, as I am now, the man I have become and go there and share my new found love of horses with Norm and relive those times and we would go for a ride together and he could teach me more. Yes I have been lucky, very lucky indeed to know them. In my life, I have only known a few men that I have a very high regard for and Norm was one of those men. With much love and respect Sean Mc

To Melva & Family ~ Extending our Deepest Sympathy in the Loss of Norman, who meant so much to so many! He was one of those people who will always stand out in Memory because of the kind of Man he was. What he said, he meant, what he did, he did to the absolute best of his ability, which was considerably more than most. My favourite memories were the days when he was Brand Inspector overseeing the incoming cattle at the Lea Park Cattle Sales. He advised me once to always count the cattle going across in front of You, no matter whether it's your business or not! I've found that to be good advice for many years! Bless You Norman, you've left a lot of Good behind You. Rest In Peace.

I want to tell you Melva and family how much I admired Norman. What a great man for a scared young 19 year old to work for!! He was funny, kind, thoughtful, and always shot from the hip! I have so many wonderful memories of the few years I got to work for him, and I met a lot of really neat people while working at Alberta Agriculture. You could always tell the farmers that came in knew that what Norman said was exactly what he meant. My condolences to all of you. A real character has ridden into the sunset one last time.

Melva and Family Condolences from Sheryn and I An honorable man was Norman. A man who treated everyone justly whether it was on the street, in the brand inspection alley or at a gathering. He was a man who gave good advice on many subjects from landscaping , showmanship to animal husbandry. He was a man I very much looked up too. Again our sympathy at you loss.
