Donations in memory of George may be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Patient Lodge, Lloydminster Home Care, Saskatchewan Abilities Council or a charity of the donor's choice. Eulogy George Henry was born to Gordon and Doris Henry in 1936. He was the middle child with two sisters, Lorna Pinder and Irene Dutton. George attended school at Kempton and completed his high school in Marshall. George started his working career with the Lloydminster Credit Bureau and then moved to the Lloydminster Co-op, first in the men's wear and then moved into several different management positions within the Co-op. He tried his hand at selling vehicles for RJR Noyes and later decided to return to school for two years training as a Denturist. This field wasn't his cup of tea and he quickly moved back into management and finished his working career as the Secretary Manager of the Lloydminster Co-op Medical Center. George and Bev were married in 1959. He was a husband who never forgot his wedding anniversary - that is after the 4th anniversary when George had returned home from hunting and found supper wasn't ready. Bev wanted to go out for supper but George was tired and wanted to stay home. He was frostily informed that supper would be beans. Recognizing something was wrong, George suddenly remembered that it was their wedding anniversary and he hastily apologized, but he still got beans for supper and he always remembered their anniversary after that. While in high school George competed in the Saskatchewan Provincial curling finals. He played ball, hunted and fished. He was an active reader, loved history and model airplanes, particularly the planes flown by the Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Kinsmen, a 45 year Legion member and an enthusiastic member of the local Militia, C Company, 1 North Saskatchewan Regiment. This was where I met George. As the rawest recruit preparing to go to Dundurn for the summer training camp, I had my kit and I was at the drill hall early, but I had absolutely no idea of how to wear my uniform. George got me squared away, showed me how to wear my uniform and tie my putties. Typical George behavior, making sure that all Militia members conducted and dressed themselves properly. Both George and Bev were very active in the Militia. George joined the Militia in 1960, became a second lieutenant in 1963, a lieutenant in 1964, a Captain in 1968, a Major in 1969 and became the commanding officer of the Company. This was the highest rank you could attain in the Lloydminster Company. After the local militia was disbanded, he spent several years as the Commanding Officer for the Vermilion Army Cadet Corp and was later awarded a CD for his 12 years of military service. During their working years, George and Bev travelld extensively in Canada and the United States visiting family. For nine years after their retirement, they spent three months of each winter on Vancouver Island. George was very fond of his nephews as well as Bev's nieces and nephews. He loved any occasion to celebrate birthdays, achievements and special occasions with his family. George loved the culture and structure of the Military, possibly as much as the Montreal Canadiens. The good news George, is the Canadiens won their game Saturday defeating the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Goodbye Major Henry.
