I was fortunate enough to have apprenticed under Dave at Sage. He was always up to something. I can remember Dave telling me one day " go up front and get Betty and Joanne to come back to the welding area." Being a good apprentice I did as I was told. I brought the ladies out into the welding area with some wild excuse regarding one of the welders hitting the building. Dave had hidden himself behind some iron plates in the welding shop, he was also packing the air horn off Rig 5. He scared the living heck out of those two. There are many other fond memories I have of Dave, but the best memory I have is the day he chose to accept me as his apprentice. Thank you Dave for your patience, your knowledge, and your friendship.

I met Dave while working @ Sage and have too many stories to be specific! Our friendship developed into more than working/partying & drinking buddies!!!' He did however play as many tricks as possible on me, like on his knees under my desk waiting for me to return to work after lunch to surprise me when I sat down, only I was late that day and when I finally appeared and he did his "scare on me" he said "it took you long enough - I've been down here for the last 20 minutes waiting for you! It was tough for him to crawl from under there after that. John was standing by not wanting to miss this and we all had a good laugh. And, I didn't even pee my pants!! Trisha & Jamey have lots of memory stories about how Dave teased them, like throwing a piece of hose out of his truck after telling them it was his pet snake! We will all miss him and that sense of humor never to be replaced.

Growing up I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with uncle Dave, some fond memories are from attending many Swift Current Broncos hockey games with uncle Dave & Auntie Kay. Uncle Dave was well known in the Civic Center for either yelling at the referee or providing humerous comments that were enjoyed by other season ticket holders in their section.
After uncle Dave retired he spent many hours at the farm helping with seeding and harvest. It was amazing how Uncle Dave could run any machine with out a great deal of training, his mechanical abilities and impressive knowledge of engines made him a natural operator. My favourite Uncle Dave story, is from harvest one year. Uncle Dave was operating one of the combines and came on the 2 way radio, where he proceeded to say "I think you guys better trade this combine off". When my dad asked why? Uncle Dave proceeded to say "well I just plugged it solid with kochia weed, and I think it will be cheaper to get a new one than the amount of time it is going take to unplug this one"... That made every one laugh, even though no one was looking forward to unplug the combine.
I will always remember uncle Dave's quick wit, his ability to remember more jokes than any one I know, and how when he was around everyone knew the conversation would be lively!

I don't have a funny story to share, but would like to share my visits with Dave in the hospital. He handled everything that was handed to him with no questions, complaints or crying. One day I told him he was allowed only one cranky day per week and that particular day was the one for that week, and he just said okay, every time I went to see him either at home or in hospital I squeezed his big toes and sometimes I would shock him if he was sleeping lightly, but always had a smile for me. Keith and I will both miss our visits with Dave, as we have never had relatives this close so this was a special time for us.
We spent many family holidays together in Edmonton on Sept. Long weekends, camping, and skiing. We spent our first Hawaiin holiday together in 1989 and we have some very special memories from that holiday. Anyway Dave it was your time to go and we accept that, we will miss you and know that you are a much better place with a lot of our special family memebers and dear friends. So farewell my friend until we meet again.

I will apologize now to the first story teller "Janice Makow", but after reading the second story from "Jenelle" which made me laugh, remembering her Dad (Keith) who still breaks up telling that story.....I felt compelled to relate this story, heavy on the word story,...... as told by Dave about his sister-in-law Janice. Numerous years ago,.Janice had been shopping for her wedding apparel and was having a problem pulling the trigger to make a purchase, based mainly on price according to Dave, .....He summed up the situation by saying "Je---, Janice is so tight, you couldn"t pound a flax seed up her a-- with a sledge hammer!"......that was Dave, rest in peace friend.

Two summers ago Dave and Kay came to our trailer at palliser park. Connor at that time was two and a half and got excited when he was telling a story and kind of got stuck on a word while getting his story told.
For some reason Kay was driving their vehicle this day. Dave got out of the passenger side and shut his finger in the door
Of course it was bleeding and Connor was watching All of this and this is what he said so seriously
"You! You! You! Should be more careful next time Uncle Dave!
Dave says " Jesus, I have never shut my finger in the car door my whole life and then Connor had to see it"
Who would ever think that a two and a half year old could teach Uncle Dave a lesson!

I will remember uncle Dave from all of our great family vacations where he and auntie kay helped teach my sister and I to water ski and ski! Uncle Dave always made us laugh and sometimes scared the pj's off of us like the time he pretended to be a bear outside our camper. I will probably remember most though our family vacation house boating when he dropped his wallet in an outhouse and then the camp supervisor thought Auntie Kay was his daughter. Not his best day but man he could tell that story and make you laugh. Guess that is what I will miss the most his great story telling, especially the ones where he sucked you in and would end up just being a joke after all!
Uncle Dave you will be remember with lots of love and always laughter.
Jenelle
