Didn’t know her or even ever spoke to her but would occasionally see her at a function. We were always impressed with her cheerfulness and how much she lighted up the room. I always thought of how impressive of her to make such efforts, remarkable lady.
Even without ever knowing her , she as made an impact on us and I’m sure many others.

Colleen's household was our cul-de-sac neighbor in the late 80's. I'll never forget the sight of her moving about her copper accessorized kitchen with her matching natural flaming copper colored hair. Years later I picked up a couple of those copper pieces at her garage sale, for current posterity. Colleen's stamina for life during her illness was admirable. She could often be spotted riding around the city, even on inclement days, always looking sharp and cared for. My your many colorful memories be a comfort to you.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am learning of Collen's passing. I only met her a couple of times, but Clleen was clearly someone not to forget. Her courage was clear while fighting ALS. I lost my mother 15 years ago after a 5 year battle with this terrible diease. My thoughts are with all who came in contact with this inspiring lady, for they are feeling a great loss.

Intense, glorious light
Squeezed so tightly into an ever-decreasing space.
Finally, the shell breaks;
The light expands...
Now she can shine everywhere,
Forever brilliant!

Sandy, Jim and Janice, Rory and Harpreet, Kimble and Tashia, and Dana, Colleen's endeared grandchildren,
We are so very sorry for your loss. Although we only knew Colleen briefly we were deeply moved by her love and acceptance of us, her love of family and friends and her tireless efforts to find a cure for ALS. Her journey with ALS was a courageous one.
She is and was a beautiful person inside and out. She embraced life to it fullest and for that we believe she was an inspiration to all. She taught all of us to love, have compassion and be courageous in whatever life throws you. Never give up.
Our family was truly blessed to have met her. Our hearts break for each and everyone of you. We regret we could not attend her funeral but want you to know that Colleen and you all were in our heart and thoughts on that challenging day.
In time we hope the fond memories of love and laughter replace the sad ones.
Love Donna, Kent, Ethan and Lauren Bernes

Ron and children, Sandra, and Jim and families, what a lady she was , remembering when we're small children and our parents were close friends,and the good times , we had together, she was the prettiest girl around for miles, and such a strong person in later years when she had als to deal with , seeing her lately since I moved back , always made me cry but she wouldn't have wanted anyone to feel sorry for her , and I didn't, it just made me sad to see such a beautiful soul trapped in her body, after talking to Jim, it made me feel better to hear that she did have a good life until lately , may she rest in peace and wear the white wings of an angel....

Tony and I enjoyed our visits with her at the cabin each summer. Colleen was a devoted advocate for the ALS society, raising awareness and funds for others who suffer with this disease. She was an amazing, optimistic women that I will always remember and hope to be as strong and enthusiastic as she was every day. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Words cannot begin to express the sadness the Christie family is feeling right now - we send our love and wish you comfort during this difficult time.
A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on. May you take comfort in knowing that you have an angel to watch over you now.

How can a person begin to express all that Colleen has meant to us, her friends and neighbours? She has taught us so much - courage, determination, vision, acceptance, love of nature, how to laugh..... and the list goes on. We will miss her.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Rest peacefully, friend.

Colleen was the most caring, loving and special person that you could have for a neighbour. I was truly amazed at her determination to beat ALS. I would always joke with her that she had a much more social life than me....and she did. Garage sales at her house were special as there was always treasures to be found. The neighbourhood watch meetings that her, Marlene and I had together were priceless. She was truly a very special LADY and I will miss her dearly. Rest now my friend you deserve it.
