SHIRTLIFFE - Lynne Annie Shirtliffe passed away peacefully in the Lloydminster Hospital on January 8, 2011 at the age of 71 years. Lynne will be sadly missed by her husband of 51 years, Wayne; son Dwaine Shirtliffe of Peace River; daughter Laureen and Darrell Dimmel of Lloydminster; four grandchildren: Amanda and Tevis Shirtliffe; Jamie and Meaghan Dimmel; parents: Les and Sophie Smith; two sisters: Gladys Toth of Edmonton, Colleen and Dwain McMillan of Chestermere; two brothers Alvin Smith of Lloydminster, Grant and Linda Smith of Lloydminster; two brothers-in-law Doug Shirtliffe and Scharlotte of Forestburg; Glen and Barbara Gayle of Lloydminster as well as their families and numerous other relatives. Lynne was pre-deceased by her father and mother-in law: Pete and Mary Shirtliffe; a brother in law: Tony Toth and a nephew: Mark Smith. Lynne was born October 7, 1939, eldest child of Les and Sophie Smith. Lynne grew up with two sisters; Colleen and Gladys and two brothers; Alvin and Grant. Lynne completed grades 1 to 6 at the North Bend school. She then moved to Albion school for grades 7 to 9. It was here that she met her future husband, Wayne. She then completed grades 10 and 11 in Lloydminster prior to embarking on her career with the CIBC, which lasted over many years. Wayne and Lynne were married in the United Church in Lloydminster July 10, 1959 and took up residence on the Bill Campbell place. They were blessed with their son Dwaine on March 28, 1961 and daughter Laureen January 3, 1963. Lynne and Wayne were blessed with four lovely grandchildren. They were the light of Lynne's life. She always made herself available to attend all of their activities. Lynne was an amazing woman. She was strong, hardworking and took pride in everything that she did. She was a 4-H leader; member of the local ladies club; she served on many volunteer committees; she was an athlete: playing ball, curling and bowling; she had many talents including crocheting, knitting, sewing, decorating cakes for special occasions and quilting. She was an amazing cook. Her house was always spotless and there was always baking in the cupboard. She loved to read and loved music of all types. She loved the farm, her garden and her flowers. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. Her friends remember her as a fun person with lots of jokes, interesting stories and off the cuff sayings. She was a fighter to the end; we never did hear one complaint from her about anything during her battle. She was a great lady…multi talented with a great capacity to love and a really quirky sense of humour. The memorial service was conducted from the Lloydminster Gospel Fellowship on Thursday January 13, 2011 with Pastor Lee Patmore officiating. Close family friends Danette Ellert and Walter Mudge gave the eulogy. A slide show tribute set to "The Prayer", "I'm Your Angel" and "There You'll Be" was played. The hymns sung were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset". The family chose a special song "You Raise Me Up". The recessional was "When I See You Again". Honourary Pall Bearers were special friends Lloyd and Danette Ellert, Tom and Marilyn Hougham, Rob and Ileene Lindsay, Walter Mudge, Marlene Priest, Earl and Marg Priest, and Ron and Jennifer Thompson. The urn bearer was Meaghan Dimmel. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster administered the funeral arrangements. The interment will be held at the Albion Cemetery at a later date.
