Norman and I have been close friends for 68 years, I met him when I moved to Lloyd in February 1948. We were in Ruth Ostrums grade 4 class and we often walked home together as we lived only 2 blocks apart. Road hockey in the winter had all the boys in the neighborhood together almost every day.
We also played organized hockey together at the old original arena for many years.
Norm and I also worked together at many different jobs including farming and auto dealers.
When I moved to BC he came out for a summer and we once again worked together at Chilliwack Esso. After that we were separated but visited each other almost every year right up until our last visit a year ago June.
My wife Mona and I will miss him and Marilyn forever

Met Norman and Marilyn in high school and were friends for sixty some years. Pete played old timer hockey with Norman. We could always count on these two to keep us up-to-date on our Lloydminster friends after we left our homes there. We have missed Marilyn since her passing, and now with the loss of Norman it feels like the chain is broken. Rest in peace, Norman, as you once again join with Marilyn, and no longer have worries or pain.

Norm and I first met in late November, 1947, either in Mrs. Ostrom's grade four classroom or on 47th or 48th street playing road hockey. Whatever it was it began a friendship that lasted for seven decades. Through public school and through high school we were classmates, colleagues and teammates and throughout it all we learned to agree to disagree on a wide range of topics. Our debates over 'religion' were particularly noisy affairs, which always ended up in laughter. Mostly we agreed, though, and that was a clear sign of mutual respect. Norm and I played together on baseball teams, hockey teams and football teams and through the many seasons we learned to joke and, above all, we learned to laugh at ourselves. I believe the most serious we got was when, in the spring of 1954, Norm, I and a few other teenagers were sent to Edmonton to learn how to be swimming instructors. While our summers at Sandy Beach were ideal for a couple of teenage boys, we were serious about the job of teaching swimming. The respect his students had for him was a clear indication of how seriously Norm took his responsibilities. Later, as our lives evolved, Norm, and Marilyn, and I sometimes wouldn't see each other for as much as five years. However, a handshake, a hug and a cup of coffee and we were back to being friends. Friends, who had a common experience that we understood and appreciated. Norm was a friend and I'm going to miss him. My sincerest condolences to Norm's family.
