I met Harold in Lloyd. in 1995 at my mother-in-law, Joyce Essar's funeral. He told me that he was a young student minister in my home town of Norman's Cove, Newfoundland, in the 50's. This is the United Church that he would have ministered at. The church is no longer there. The family he lived with had a baby boy who they named after Harold. This young lad turned out to be my best friend.
It was a pleasure knowing your father.

Thank you Harold for the memories! You gave me support when I needed it and were always ready to give advice. I will treasure the books you gave me to use in ministry knowing you were downsizing but certainly built my library. Thank you for being a part of our life for so many years. Heaven has received a true worker.

I was a neighbour in ministry from 1991 to 1997 at Marsden-Neilburg. We had a wonderful relationship as long as Harold knew "I tell the jokes!"
The last time I saw Harold was at the 60th anniversary celebrations of Neilburg United Church about 3 years ago. It was hard to believe Harold Martin "interned" in Winter, near Neilburg in the 1950's. People still remembered him and loved him dearly. At that occasion, as Harold was going to the pulpit, I reminded him that "I tell the jokes." So after he spoke, I got to say a few words too. I remarked that I noted in Harold's speech he indicated he came from Newfoundland before Newfoundland was a province. I was able to get the final word. "Sounds to me, Harold, once they became a province they wouldn't let you back!" This might be the only time I got the last word!
I will miss him dearly. Wonderful person and a wonderful minister. Blessings to the whole family,
Ken
