CHRISTIE - James "Jim" Rodger Christie passed away peacefully in the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Center, Lloydminster, Alberta on Friday, November 12th, 2010 at the age of 89 years. Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Margaret, of Lloydminster; five children: Larry Christie ( Lori ) of Kelowna, B.C., Dennis Christie ( Norma ) of Red Deer, AB. Connie Ponto of Wetaskiwin, AB, Calvin Christie (Sharon ) of Mission, B.C., Duane Christie of Mission, BC., Six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister Bernice George of Surrey, B.C. as well as numerous other relatives. Jim met Margaret at a Landrose dance, they married on November 8th, 1945 and just celebrated 65 years of marriage on November 8th, 2010. His early career was auto body mechanic until he began farming in the Marshall/Landrose area, retiring when he was nearly 80 years old. An important part of Dad's life was being able to help family and friends wherever possible. He was a volunteer fireman in Lloydminster in his younger years and upon retirement from farming he volunteered his many handyman talents at the Interval Store in Lloydminster. He enjoyed family gatherings at the Gully Park in the summers and visits with many of his Christie cousins. Dad enjoyed music, dancing and attending local hockey games. Dad was always cheerful and easy going. He was just a nice guy to be around. The funeral service was conducted from the St. John's Anglican Church, Lloydminster, Sask. on Friday, November 19th, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Michael Stonhouse officiating. The eulogy was read by Larry Christie and a Bible reading was read by granddaughter, Damara Wolter. Pallbearers were Ryan Christie (grandson), Jason Christie ( grandson), Norval Christie, Ron Christie, Tom McKevitt and Gerard McKevitt. Interment was held in the Lloydminster City Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd. Of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. CARD OF THANKS We would like to thank the staff at the Dr. Cooke Care Center for their kind and compassionate care of Dad. Thank you to Reverend Stonhouse for officiating at his funeral. Thanks to the Choir and also members of the St. John's Anglican Church for providing lunch. We extend many thanks to the Pallbearers, Pat Skinner the organist, and Leonard Hardes for his fiddle tunes. Thank you to all the kind people that sent flowers and donations. Donations can be sent to the Dr. Cooke Care Center Patient Fund. Thank you to Glenn McCaw and the staff of McCaw Funeral Service Ltd. for their excellent services provided to our family during this difficult time. We extend a special thanks to a family friend, Alice Huggins for all her kindness to dad and her continued friendship with our mom and family. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Dr. Cooke Patient Comfort Fund.
