My great auntie Vera taught me there was more to life than just living, she made me believe in more. I remember her being kind and funny and always used to grab hold of you and give you a kiss! I hope she's in peace now and looking down on us all living out the rest of our lives. Jade Sturt
My auntie Vera who was my godmother, she was always there for me even if it was just at the end of the phone. She was a great confidant, a wonderful, kind and amazing woman. A childhood memory was whenever we had our favourite fruit, strawberries together it would be one for me and two for auntie Vera. She never failed to make me laugh. Susan Allen

Dear Betty & Barry & family, Barb & Doug,
Our sincere heartfelt sympathies to you all in the passing of your dear mum, grandma and great grandma. Vera was a wonderful lady full of life, smiles and laughter, she had the true British spirit. Vera and I enjoyed having a cuppa tea together and a good old natter and sharing our memories about England. Bruce always told me after my visit with Vera he couldn't understand what I was saying, I guess my accent slid back. Cherish your wonderful happy memories in your hearts she will always be with you. Rest in peace Vera and God bless you.

We would love to express our condolences to our wonderful friends Barb and Doug, Barry and Betty and to all of Vera’s family spread far and wide. We have had the pleasure of meeting Vera and, like many of you, hearing fabulous life stories and sharing many laughs. She definitely loved life and loved to live it and experience many things to the fullest. What I remember the most is her hugs! When you were hugged by this loving, caring, wonderful woman, you know it was from the heart and sincere. You will be missed Vera but never forgotten as you left a lasting impression on us all.

To Nan,
When no one was watching you held my hand and you were thinking of something weren’t you? Even now I will never know what that was.
I don’t have many memories with you but the memories I have are only fun memories. I remember you kindly asking me to call you Nan, eating jellied eels together, you ringing the tea bell and you telling me that the star sign Libra is good.
Although our nationality, race, language, culture and generation are different, you accepted me into the family as one of your own and I appreciate that.
I’m glad that you could live a good life and are now sleeping peacefully.
I want to live a good long life like you did together with Bec.

Our speech for Nan.
From a young age Jack and I have had a special connection with our great grandparents. We are the lucky few who got to meet, know and spend so much time with them over the years.
Friend or Foe? Nannie Glasses and Grandad Tubs would used to say to Jack and I as we wheeled on our toy cars around their house wearing Grandad's hats. If we said "friend" we were allowed through and stopped by the next person for the question to be asked again. "Foe" we would then say whilst giggling and we would be sent back the other way.
Spending time at Nan's house would consist of Nan preparing our favourite dish, salmon and rice, as Jack and I chant "dinner dinner dinner dinner dinner!" to the batman theme with Grandad. It meant teaching them new songs and hymns that we had learnt at school because they loved to sing. It would involve Jack and I swinging our trousers along with Laurel and Hardy on TV as Nan and Grandad burst into fits of laughter. It meant watching Tom and Jerry together although Nan never liked cats. It meant playing with the tassels on the bottom of their sofa. It meant giggling at Nan as she cringed at the mere sight of a snake on TV. Being at Nan's house meant Jack sleeping together with Grandad and me sleeping together with Nan and asking Nan to tell me the story of the man with the wooden leg, knowing full well how the story would end. I always somehow had the wooden leg! Nan's house meant taking walks down to the park to play on the climbing frames, it meant showing Nan and Grandad that we could do cart wheels in the garden, it meant putting your shoes on and finding a £5 note stuffed inside that we would then hide in another location for Nan and Grandad to find, it meant frequent trips to Legoland, the Harvester's and Windsor and it meant having endless amounts of sweeties and cereal be bought for us. Although, we all know that the sweets were for Nan really!
Even as we grew older and even when we lost Grandad. Nan was always there. Nan was Nan. Nan was the unchanging part of our ever changing lives. No matter how many years passed, no matter what age, Nan and her house in Langley were always there, visiting Nan meant taking a step back in time to the good ol' bad ol' days as she used to describe it. Even now, going to visit Nan would mean watching game shows together on TV, it would mean Jack and I continuing our tradition by making salmon and rice for Nan as she chants the dinner, dinner, dinner! theme, it would mean Nan asking Jack to hide all of the chocolate Magnum ice creams in the freezer so she didn't eat them all, it would mean talks over toast and tea in the morning that would last until the late hours of the night, it would mean hearing stories of Grandad, the war, Red Eagle and our guides, the news, everything and nothing.
Our relationship with Nan was special. It was a kind of bond that are far and few to come by, a bond that only we will ever understand, a bond that you don't see between such different generations very often nowadays.
Nan, I wish we could have met again, but your time was up. Your final words to me on the phone were "Say you never know" and I think you knew it wasn't meant to be. I may be a sniveling wreck right now, but I know that you, Grandad Tubs, Nanny Brenda and Little Wolf are watching over me so I will be strong. You have had such a positive impact on my life. You are my inspiration. Nan, I am going to live my life in your honour and I am going to make you proud.
Please give everyone up there a big hug and kiss from us all.
Thank you for all of the fun times we shared.
We love and miss you Nan, lots and lots and lots.
The whole family will be listening out for you.
love Becca and Jackalino
