Clifford Dwight Fairley passed away peacefully Sunday, October 24th, 2010 at Maidstone Hospital. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl O'Donnell and husband Kelly; his daughter Glenda O'Grady and husband Mike; and his son Gavin Fairley and wife Michelle, as well as five grandchildren, Morgan, Cabrie and Connor O'Donnell, Lauren O'Grady and Bennett Fairley. He is also survived by his mother Thelma Mantieffel, sister's Gwen Williams, Carol Meagher and a brother Ron (Gloria) Fairley and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his infant son, Braden Dwight; his father Gerald Fairley; his step father Ernest Mantieffel; and his nephew Reagan Williams.
Dwight was born in Cut Knife, SK. Growing up on the family farm, Dwight attended school at Baldwinton, Saskatchewan from grades one to seven, and he went to Neilburg from grade eight to grade ten. He quit school after this to get serious about farming where he would excel and spend the rest of his life doing what he loved. In 1971, he married Lorna Sandbeck and together they raised 3 children. He bought land from Bob Salsbury, Bill McCrea, Ernest Mantieffel, and his father Gerald. Dwight was proud of the fact that he built his farm from hard work and determination.
Most of Dwight's time was spent doing what he enjoyed and that was farming and operating machinery, whether it was a caterpillar, tractor or a combine he always took great pride in his machinery. He could fix anything and he spent countless hours in his shop tinkering on projects. He was eager to lend a hand to neighbors when they had problems with machinery and he was a good person to have along on hunting or fishing trips, if something broke down you can bet that he could get it going again. After farming for many years he showed no signs of slowing down and kept working the land right up until going into the hospital for the last time.
Dwight had a soft spot for animals and people who had fallen on hard times. He would try and do what he could for them. He liked to see young people work hard and get ahead and always encouraged his family to go out and work for what they wanted. He set an example for his children to follow by having a strong work ethic.
Dwight's biggest accomplishments were providing for his family and being an all around good farmer. He can rest easy knowing he did a good job at both.
