Saved By Uncle Les posted a condolence
Monday, December 24, 2018
Ran across a poem I hope the family will see this Christmas; Les Johnson saved me and because of the story he told me about Jesus I will see him one day soon! Anyways here is the poem,
I see the countless Christmas trees, around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven's stars reflecting in the snow.
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away those tears
For I am spending Christmastime, with the Lord this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear
But the sound of music can't compare, with the Christmas choir up here
I have no words to describe the joy their voices bring
For it is truly beyond description to hear the angels sing
I know how much you miss me, and the pain within your heart
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart.
So be happy for me dear ones, you know I hold you near
And be glad that I am spending Christmas, with Jesus Christ this year.
I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I sent you each a memory, of my undying love.
After all love is a gift, more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other, as our Father said to do.
For I can't count the blessings, or the love he has for you.
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear, and
Remember I am spending Christmas, with Jesus Christ this year.
Johnson family: May God be with you in this Christmas season and let him remind you of the legacy Uncle Les had in so many lives, soon we will bye with him and all together again so do not be sad, rather remember what a solid man of faith he was. Thank you for all you did Les.

Literally, there must be thousands of us now, when reminiscing about DTBC, the remarkable & loyal Uncle Les stands out in the memories. Sure he could put the fear of God in ya instantly, but ultimately, he cared for us unruly rugrats! Thank you Johnson family for making the trek to our neck of the woods all those summers; your impact was significant! Condolences to you all. ~Jim Knoepfli

First had the chance of meeting Les in 2001 when he was pastoring the small church in Clandonald. I also had the chance of helping out at camp for a week that summer. I have many fun and wonderful memories of him. My thoughts prayers are with the family.

We first met Les about 20 years ago when he was the pastor of the small church in Clandonald. We were immediately struck by his simple but direct messages each Sunday. It was evident that the love and care he had for the tiny congregation was reciprocated. He was a pastor and a friend. Sincere sympathies to the family.

Uncle Les was a guy who demonstrated amazing patience and saw hope for thousands of youth and young adults. I for one experienced his grace when he could have justified kicking me out of camp as a youth, yet worked with me and eventually mentored me for years into a camp counselor role, giving me skills and confidence that has carried me well into my adult years. He was both forthright and gentle, quick to laugh, and he knew clearly how the human mind worked. I will never forget the softness and emotional vulnerability he demonstrated on the last day of each camp as he said goodbye and released the youth back into the real world, always with a lump in his throat. I will also miss the one on one time he gave me each week over the years as we drove to and from the Fairview pool in his truck, both avoiding the loud school bus of kids, where he would brag about his childrens' pursuits, explain the workings of his dairy farm, talk to me about which youth I might want to put my energy as a camp counselor, and once in awhile give me an opinion or two on the single female counselors that he believed I may be interested in. My life would be so different without the leadership of Uncle Les and enthusiastic and charismatic song leading of Aunt Myrtle. I know Aunt Myrtle is surrounded by love right now from her family and I wish her peace and joy.
