I was saddened to learn of Pete's death.
I first met Pete in 1952 while employed by Nelson Lumber.
Several things that I remember to this day about Pete:
He was very kind and soft spoken.
But he was "tough as nails".
He could work harder AND longer than any other man I've ever met. While I was part-timing at Nelson's while going to school, I would swamp with him on a delivery truck during the summer months. Although I was young and strong, by nightfall he had plumb worn me out but was always ready to take on one more load - even if it was way past sundown and dark.
Pete never held a grudge.
Money wasn't important to him. Working and doing a good job was always at the top of his list.
Pete is one man that I have often thought about over the years. I guess it's because he made a lasting impression upon me.
My sincere condolences to his remaining family.
- Dennis Wilson, Edmonton, AB.

So sorry to hear about Pete. I will always treasure my memories of Pete while I worked at Nelson’s. He was one of a kind, always taking time for a chat, and sharing stories with his great sense of humor. A kind and generous man ... he will be missed.

I remember as a little girl running over to Petro Canada from our restaurant and wanting a treat. Sometimes Pete would say well where's your money and other times he would just buy something small for me. This past winter when I went to visit him I couldn't find him in his room so I asked the ladies where I would find him. They told me oh he's probably out back shoveling the snow and sure enough that's where I found him:) Never seen anyone work so hard in my life like Petey xoxo

What does one say about Pete Campbell?
He was the third or fourth employee hired at Nelson Lumber and was there faithfully for over 50 years. I remember Pete driving the Jeep out at all times of the day and night to plow our driveway, and whatever else needed to be done.
Hardest working guy I ever met. God Bless Pete and his family.

I didn’t know Pete that well but in the short time of working with him at Nelson Lumber I got to know just how humble of a human being he was. And I saw his work ethic up front. It didn’t matter how cold it was outside he was always out in the yard counting lumber. He will truly be missed by all.

July 1976, my very shy, quiet Uncle Pete offered to stand in for my recently departed father to give me away at the wedding service. It was a very generous offer and he went to a great deal of trouble to do it. With many of us still feeling deep sorrow for my father’s passing, it was Uncle Pete’s calm, loving manner that helped us all. Over the years we consistently enjoyed his kindness, sense of humour and generosity.
23 years ago, when my son was nine years old, we visited Pete and he took us all around, insisting taking us for lunch and dinner, driving us around in his Cadillac and showing us where he worked. He showed my son how he could change provinces simply by crossing the street. We had great laughs seeing my son going back and forth across the street.
My son Matthew and I will miss Pete very much.

Pete, my brother, was one of a kind. He was always happiest working. So much so that often when I stop by to visit, they would have to page him several times to let him know I was there. Only when i was ready to leave ( could be an hour or more) he would meet me at the door for a quick hand shake and a smile. He took pride in his work, never slowed down and was always in the thick of things. He never missed an opportunity to to spend the time with new employees, showing them the way. Encouraging them to put all they had into what they were doing. I have so many fond memories of growing up with Pete. He was a fabulous dancer. Every dance he polished up his dancing shoes, dressed in a suit and had all the ladies waiting in line - all of which he found the time to whirl around the floor. The rest of us stood along the wall - in awe. Time to rest, Pete

My life is richer having known Pete Campbell.
Our Mom, Mary Karen, was at the same table as Pete at the Dr. Cooke. Pete was the consummate gentleman. He helped all of the ladies with seating and took their cups on the seat of his walker to get their coffee.
One year we asked Pete to join our family for Christmas dinner. I recall how much he enjoyed having 'men' at the table, He told so many good stories about his working years. Not sure how much he ate that day but it was so good to see him so animated in his conversation.
The world has lost a kind, gentle soul.

While still in high school, I started working at Nelson Lumber after school and Saturdays, then full time for several years. Pete taught work ethics in such a manner, I never knew at the time, how that would influence the rest of my life. For that , I thank him. A joke or prank was daily, along with skinned knuckle or finger or bruise from something-- just keep working and get the job done. He never missed a new movie at the May theater downtown back in the 60's/70's. Good friend. Will be missed..... Thank you , Pete.................. Don Ellis
