One of the many memories I have of mom is that she always had time for her friends and family. She would spend all the time in the world making buns with her grandchildren as well as other activities such as tea parties, picnics, gardening and the like. Mom loved her flowers, especially in Livelong where she could look out any window in the house and see a multitude of colorful blooms. Mom you will be forever in our hearts and memories. Love you.

I have so many fond memories of Grandma, and out all the things I will never forget how she made me feel. When speaking to Grandma she always made you feel valued.
Grandma seemed to have a sixth sense for Grandkids showing up to her house. This sixth sense lead to her always having either her famous Cinnamon Buns or Grandma’s cookies fresh and cooling on the counter waiting for us when we arrived. It was like she was always ready for Grandma duty and would always be up before us reading and happy to tell us stories. The most fun times were had when Grandma “needed help” with something and we got to be assistant bakers, or help her in the garden with berry picking, vegetable picking, and pranks involving zucchinis.
One of my favourite things about Grandma was that she was obsessed with being taller than us Grandkids. Growing up she would hug us closely and then rest her chin on our heads, laugh and exclaim that she was taller than us. Of course, the moment I was taller than Grandma and hugged her I proudly set my chin on her head in sweet revenge. Looking back now there is really no closer way to hug someone than holding them and using them as a chin rest. I think Grandma had spent our entire lives conditioning us to hold her close as we grew older. To me, there is nothing more Rose Matthews than subtly teaching someone how to make others feel valued and comfortable.
As I grew up, I was lucky to be able to see Grandma as a teacher, a feminist, and someone who was always my fan. She is someone who will always be dear to my heart and I will miss her dearly. I just hope that when I see her again my scrabble skills are on par with hers.

Rose was the best grandma I could have hoped to have. She was kind, caring and always up for a visit be it two minutes or two hours. I have many fond memories of being with her at the house in Livelong picking berries to have with ice cream for supper, puttering around in the garden and of course eating her amazing fresh cinnamon buns! It was always great to go to grandma’s house as a kid; she brought so much joy to us and I know that we brought joy to her too! Even when she moved into the lodge in Turtleford visiting was still a treat. She was always happy to have a visit, go out for lunch and a drive and chat about whatever was on TV. Rose gave me many great memories which I will cherish forever, and she will forever live on within my heart.

My Mom was the best Mom and Grandma ever. Mom loved to have visitors and always had time for a visit. She was very happy to get off the farm and move to Livelong so she could volunteer more and see people. She loved it when her two brothers moved into Livelong so she could help them out a bit more. She loved her flowers. After Dad passed away she moved to the Lodge in Turtleford. She loved it there and as she became more dependent on Home Cares help she loved them too. We have such wonderful memories that I will cherish forever. We would like to thank all the hospital staff for taking such good care of her the last few months. Love you always Mom. Vicky
