I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Gordon. We attended school together in Wadena and we both took the teaching path. We shared great teachers who pushed us on and up. Susan (Robinson) Carter

I only knew Gordon through emails about Family History. We had ancestors in common in Suffolk, England. Gordon was very kind in sharing with me any information that he had.
Sincere condolences to all his family.

I have just learned that my wonderful friend passed away. We haven't met in person as I live in Ukraine, but we had been online friends for seven years. I called him "my elder brother from Canada". Deepest condolences to the family. RIP, my dear friend. You will always be missed.

I'm so sorry to read about Gordon's passing.
While I never had the chance to meet him in person, I always deeply cherished the talks and interactions we had online. He was a clever, funny, kind person in my interactions with him, and I will miss getting to chat with him.

Don, Dennis, Marina and families. My deepest condolences. Gordon and I shared a lot of play time when we were kids living in Wadena, went to cadets together, hung out. And in the past couple of years connected via Instagram as we both loved posting our photos. I’m am so sorry about his passing. He was such a good person and left an indelible mark on the world. I’ve just learned of Gordon’s passing. We never met in person (I live in the US); we met through an online group back in the late 90s. Over the years, we’ve emailed and texted frequently, discussing travel, books, our cats, teaching... his presence in my life will be greatly missed.

Deepest sympathies to the Rook family. I had the pleasure of spending many hours with Gord coaching basketball and travelling to all corners of the country with some outstanding young athletes. Gord was a shining example of how to treat people and I learned so much from him. He was the ultimate Lobo and was able to inspire so much pride in his athletes on being from LHS and from Lashburn. Gord was proud of his community and province and I recall how excited he was when we toured the Maritimes with our basketball team when he saw a Saskatchewan flag flying from the Bluenose in Lunenburg. Gord of course had made the arrangements for our team. A great coach, organizer, amazing statistician, and trainer, Gord volunteered countless hours to athletics in basketball and volleyball. Few did more for school and community. Gord was a great friend and will be missed by all those who knew him. God Bless you Gord. Brian Gislason

Gord was a huge part of the Lashburn Golf Club. He was the quintessential volunteer....he was always there, be it tarps, admin or general labour. Gord laid first tracks in the dew with his morning rounds each day. His presence will be surely missed.
Our children benefitted from the many opportunities provided to them by the excellent teamwork at Lashburn High School. Gord was an integral part of that team, as he was the quiet person getting so many things done in the background. Without his input, things would not have run so smoothly. His focus on his students’ well-being was always apparent and appreciated. I was lucky enough to occasionally assist in his class where he made history engaging. Our kids learned many things from him, in and out of the classroom.
This is a very sad occasion and we wish Gord’s family our sincerest condolences.
Thanks for everything, Gord. Rest peacefully.

I've enjoyed Gordon's friendship for these past several years through my life-long friendship with his Aunt Laurina Rook who had known my Mom since their earliest years as girls in Rocanville SK. Laurina died in Calgary last July 9th age 97. I was the one who advised Gordon of her death. Laurina was the sister of Gordon's father Warren Rook, whom I knew. I also knew Gordon's Rook Grandparents. Gordon was conscientiously looking after his Aunt Laurina's estate when he too died last Thursday. Gordon was a good friend to me, and a good nephew to his Aunt Laurina. He had a broad range of interests and ideas which I enjoyed hearing about, and he expressed great interest in my life, and thoughts about life. His untimely death at such a young age is shocking. He was full of life, cared about others, and still had much to see, do and contribute. I will miss him. Roddy MacKenzie, West Vancouver BC

Mr Rook was such a huge influence on us as a teacher, mentor and friend. Right from the time he arrived at Lashburn he jumped in volunteering and being there when ever needed. He loved to have fun and made school a great place to be. Loved his infectious laughter and how he walked that fine line between teacher and friend. He had a huge impact on all that knew him and will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched. He was truly one of those teachers that carry in your heart.

Our deepest sympathy to Gord's family from his Lashburn family.
Gord was my workmate for over 30 years. My leadership right hand, co-pilot, sounding board, charity fund raiser (into the hundreds of thousands!) and fun raiser (spirit days, dances, conferences, graduations), event organizer, workaholic, late night clean up crew, golf partner, coffee buddy (he drank tea) and steady, solid, dependable, go-to driver, referee, coach, trip leader, conference organizer, tournament host, carpenter’s helper, book keeper, charity drive organizer, and mentor… to name a few. Gord provided the hard work behind just about every worthwhile venture we took on at Lashburn High as a staff member and administrator. Fiercely loyal to Lashburn High School and to the Roughriders; never in the spotlight and rarely in the photographs (he held the camera), Gord served. So many benefited. Gord made us better. I consider it a great honour to have shared his light. Good bye my friend.
Love,
Don and Holly Wheler and family

Mr Rook was a brand new teacher in Lashburn when I was in Grade 10. He taught us biology among other things. He had a great rapport with the students and always remained your friend. We connected again about 5 yrs ago when he was fundraising for Movember. A great spirit he was. Lord bless and keep you in heaven Gord.
