A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER ~ by Arlene Hilman

My father died May 7, 2021 and as his daughter I delight in expressing my great love for him over scores of years.  Yes, he was my best friend through life.

I’m not here to talk of his accomplishments which were many.  Dad was a very humble man who never drew attention to himself, yet found tremendous satisfaction and pleasure in developing and fortifying, supporting and serving others.

He was a man of strong values ~ loyalty, faithfulness, devotion and dedication; having outstanding strength of mind and spirit.   I so often through the years watched his courage, rigorously following his convictions in the face of great difficulties encountered in his path.  And there was more - he was the epitome of love, to his family and all around him.  As a 19 year old working my first job, a colleague of Dad’s saw me at a bus stop near Husky’s head office and coming over said while shaking his head, “Arlene, your dad, I don’t think he has an enemy!”  And he lived that way his whole lifelong.

Dad walked and left my brothers and I a very good heritage to live on, but not only.  My grown five children this week have expressed the same.  Thank you Dad, Grandpa ~ we love you!
