Bill Sharp was a big man as was my husband Jim and they always did things big . They built a huge pile of wood on the beach of Haida Gwaii and Ruth was going to cook for us, well, the idiots threw some gasoline on the pile and didn't tell us. Ruth got the meat into the cast iron fry pan ready to cook and said " you can light it now" They threw a match on it and there were flames 12 ft high and nearly as wide!! I can still see Ruth standing at least ten feet back the heat was so fierce hanging onto the fry pan wondering how the hell to get close enough to cook !! The look on her face was priceless, and then she started to laugh and laugh. Her laughter lightened the day !!! Every time.

I loved Ruth and the many wonderful things she did. One thing that will always stick in my mind was from when she moved to Cut Knife. She still had a subscription to the Cut Knife Courier but insisted that we continue to send it to her old address so her friends could continue to follow "Tuc's Troubles". It seems a group of them shared the paper and often had discussions about what that cat would come up with next. To me it was symbolic of the kind heart and generous nature that was a part of Ruth. I'm so glad I had the chance to meet her and know her even a little bit. I will cherish her memory while my heart goes out to others who loved her and spent special time with her, especially in her last few months.
