I would like to reach out and say a few things about Fred Pepper & Canwood. I never knew Fred, but we spoke a couple of times on the phone, once in the late ’90’s and in April, 2020. Fred was always happy to share his time and knowledge, answering any questions I had and just talking shop. I bought my first Canwood drum kit back in 1987. I purchased the Canwood drum set from Long and McQuade, Bloor St, Toronto. These drums have been across Canada, on hundreds of stages and in many recording studio’s.
I’ve had a lot of compliments from musicians, recording engineers and live sound technicians about Fred Peppers drums. They have a beautiful tone, warmth, resonance & body. They are absolutely fantastic! Fred really put his heart, ear and edgenuity into every drum kit he built. I believe Fred was years ahead of many drum builders. I’ve since purchased two more Canwood drum kits and will cherish every time I play them! Thanks Fred. My sincere condolences to the Pepper family.

Just a side note; the second photo of myself was taken at a jam night and are not Canwood drums.

I just want to share my condolences to Fred's family. It is years ago that I remember Fred as a young boy growing up. I thought the world of his Mom, but don't recall ever meeting his Dad. As I remember Fred; he always seemed to do the very best he could and indeed was very successful in his musical endeavours. An important part of our rural community of years gone by.

Condolences to the family. I played “Wipe Out” today from memories of dances at Hillmond with Fred on the drums. I think maybe the last dance of the night.

We are sorry to hear of Fred’s death. We remember his work with those great drums. Also, over 40 years ago he dug the trenches to the well for our home. He did very good work and always had a story or two to tell. We send our sympathy to his boys and their families.

Our condolences to the family.
Fred was one of a kind. He usually had something smart to say. When we were fencing together years ago, He said when I was pounding in staples that you are like lightning, never hit the same spot twice.
A talented drummer and sound tech . We still have one if the first drum kits he made.
He will be missed.
May Jesus comfort each one.
Love and prayer.
Glen and Linda Amundrud.
