Rollande Desilets

Obituary of Rollande Desilets

Rollande Celine Marie Rose Desilets passed away at St. Walburg Care Home, St. Walburg, Saskatchewan on April 21, 2023 at the age of 100 years.

Rollande Desilets was born to Theophile and Suzanne DeLanghe on April 15, 1923, at St. Walburg Hospital. She had one older sister, Helene. When Rollande was an infant, her mother passed away and at 5 months of age she was taken in by Alfred and Marie Duriez who would become her parents, with her father still visiting several times a year. Her sister then joined her at the Duriez family. She gained 9 siblings from this family, as the Duriez’s had 7 children of their own and were also raising a niece and nephew.

At 9 years of age, she and her sister moved back with their father in the Freemont area, a difficult move as their father was like a stranger and the Duriez’s had become her parents. She attended the Perch Lake School while with the Duriez family and then the Flat Lake School in the Freemont area.

By the time she was 15 years old she had taken her first job. During this time her foster father, Alfred, passed away and she returned to stay with her mom, Marie. When things settled, she went to work in the surrounding area and would return to spend the winters with her mom, Marie.

In 1943, she married John Desilets, her husband of 59 years. Rollande and John lived with John’s parents for the first year, then move to Mr. Summerset’s in 1944. In 1945, they purchased the Sandall Store and moved to SE 2-52-24, and remodeled it to make it livable. They raised four children on the family farm. They lived and farmed in the Paradise Hill area until retirement where they built their new home on her dad, Theophile’s, lot in the village of Paradise Hill. Rollande and John lived in the Seniors apartment for several years, John passed away during this time. Rollande later moved to the Paradise Hill Care Home for several years and when she required more assistance, she moved to the Lakeland Lodge in St. Walburg where she resided for the last 7 years of her life.

Rollande is predeceased by her loving husband, John Desilets; her parents, Theophile and Suzanne DeLanghe; her foster parents, Alfred and Marie Duriez; her sister, Helene DeLanghe; all of the Duriez siblings; her son, Donald Desilets and her grandson, Corey Nedelec; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maurice and Clara Desilets; her sisters-in-law, Judy Hanson, Ann Desilets and Jean Desilets; and her brothers-in-law, Lionel Desilets and Bill Hanson.
