EULOGY
We found it very difficult to summarize the life of Erdine in the short time we have. No matter how hard we try, we can never do justice to her journey through life. We are all grieving today for we lost a wonderful person, but wherever she has gone, youll have to agree that she would be happy and contented with what she has left behind.
Erdine was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and a friend to all. Almost everyone knew her as a plucky, no-nonsense, dispenser of wisdom. She was quick to judge and quick to forgive. She loved her family fiercely, and poured kindness on her children and grandchildren.
She started off life in Clyde River on the southern tip of Nova Scotia. It was there that she grew up and graduated high school. With the onset of the second world war, her life would change. She met Pvt. Eric Polinsky of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps while he was stationed fifteen minutes to the north of Clyde in the bustling sea port of Shelburne. They quickly fell in love and were married.
When Eric was discharged from his unit, they took the long train ride back out west to rejoin his family in Lashburn, Saskatchewan. She gave birth and raised two lovely girls, Linda and Margo. The family lived for a time in Lashburn, Maidstone, Marwayne, and finally settled in Lloydminster.
She saw both her daughters married and reveled in the arrival of her grandchildren, Tyler and Rebecca. With the recent comings of her great grandchildren, Jessica and Taylor, Erdine spent her later years surrounded by family.
Her life was highlighted by her service to others. Through the Order of the Eastern Star, Royal Purple, and the U.C.W., she donated her time and efforts toward making the world a better place. She was devoted to her family. She made a point of purchasing a piano for her daughters before any other furniture for her new house. She was always there for her grandchildren, whether they needed some encouragement or a slap on the wrist.
She would bake wondrous goodies for everyone to enjoy. One of her secret pleasures in life was to lavish gigantic meals on everyone who sat at her table. She would somehow make everyone feel slightly guilty for not having that third helping of elaborate cake. Everyone would always leave her house several pounds heavier.
She loved to tease and be teased. It was always hilarious to lead her on until she got wise to the joke and poked you with her razor sharp fingernails. She played the part of the crotchety old woman to a tee and we all loved her for it.
We all know how important we were to her. She showed us on a daily basis. We may no longer be able to see her or speak with her, but we will always have the million shared moments she shared with us. We can always be thankful for knowing and loving such a dear lady.
