Obituary of Helen Starnes
We wish to announce the passing of our Mum, Helen Elizabeth Starnes (nee Scotton), on the evening of June 21, 2023, at Saskatoon St. Paul’s Hospital. Helen is remembered by her children, Kelly (Len) Bykowy, Lonnell Starnes, Doug (Cheryl) Starnes; her grandchildren, Reid (Quinn) & Kara Bykowy, Rhys & Megan Williams, Brock (Rebecca), Kali & Liam Starnes; her great-grandchildren, Veda, Grae & Van Bykowy, Everly & Ryker Starnes; her brothers, Richard & Buck (Ellyn) Scotton; her sister, Nancy (Marcel) Stroo; brother-in-law Rick (Cheryl) Starnes; sisters-in-law Noriene Srochenski, Sylvia Johns, and Retha (Roy) Chenoweth as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was the second eldest of eight children, born December 16, 1933, to Joseph and Georgina Scotton on their Mayfair farm. After completing her nursing studies in Saskatoon, Helen married Gordon Starnes on July 8, 1961, and moved to Turtleford. After Gordon’s passing, Helen invested her passion into her nursing career for over 30 years at the Turtleford Hospital. There, she was compassionate for colleagues and patients alike, and is still revered as one of their greatest nurses. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing at Turtle Lake, painting, as well as cheering for the Edmonton Oilers and Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Our family would like to thank all the wonderful nursing staff at Palliative Care in St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
In lieu of flowers, our family suggests donating to the Turtleford Riverside Health Complex 1st Street South Highway 303 Turtleford SK S0M 2Y0 or a charity of your choice in Helen’s memory.
Private family interment at Turtleford Cemetery.
Please join our family on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 2:00 PM for a memorial gathering at Turtleford Lions Club Hall.
