IN MEMORY OF YOU
If we could visit heaven even for a day, maybe for a moment, the pain would go away, I’d put my arms around you and whisper words so true, that living life without you, is the hardest thing to do. No matter how we spend our days, no matter what we do, no matter morning, dawns or evening fall when we don’t think of you. Author -unknown
Grandpa, you are the best grandpa I could ever ask for, you did a lot with me and I would do anything for you. You will always be my buddy. Every goal I score in hockey will be for you in heaven. ❤️Your favourite, Emersyn
Grandpa, my #1 fan, volleyball won’t be the same without you when I look up in the stands. I will forever miss your hugs, our selfies together, our coffee runs and mostly you. Thank you for being the best grandpa ever.❤️
Your favourest, Mia (moushkaboushkakadimoushka) xoxo

Our sincere sympathy to each of you on the loss of Jim. I first met Jim and Irene at parent teacher conferences for Michelle. The love they felt for her and the pride in their family was obvious. Whenever I met Jim, his booming voice, his contagious smile and his wonderful sense of humour lit up the room. He often had morning coffee at the same Tim Horton’s as my Mom and her friend. Mom would laugh about his stories and loved joking back and forth with him. Jim had a wonderful way of making everyone he met feel special. Ken and I will remember him not only for the laughter he brought but also for the kindness we felt whenever we saw him. May your family find peace and comfort in the memories you share.

We are so saddened to hear of Jim’s passing.
Jim would always greet us with a big smile and “Hi guys, how are you?”
One of our first memories is sitting at the kitchen table in their Glenwood apartment. Sharing a coffee and communicating with the help of a Czech-English dictionary as they shared their story. This was such a gift to us as they trusted us with true friendship.
Jim was an excellent carpenter, and I was honored to help him attain his Journeyman status in Vermilion.
A memory of him finishing the inside of Dell’s cabin at Brightsand Lake. Not all measurements were working that day. Jim told me he started in English but finished in Czech, with some choice words. We both had a good laugh.
Although we moved away and missed many years, when we did reunite it was like we had just seen each other yesterday.
The last time we saw Jim at their cabin, he introduced us to his neighbor saying, “These are our oldest friends.” These words were a gift to us. A memory we will always treasure. Thank you Jim we love you.
Our world has been a better place by knowing Jim and sharing his joy for life, family, and friends.

Jimmy you were “one of a kind”. You were so caring, considerate and kind with a very unique sense of humour. Tim and I would go for coffee/ tea and when we would get up to leave, Jimmy would always say “where are you going?” He loved visiting and didn’t want you to leave. The first time we took Jimmy fishing, his first cast, he says, “I think I caught one”. We thought he was joking. No, he wasn’t. With Tim and Rob coaching and helping him, he landed a 15+ pound Northern Pike. He showed us all how to fish. Jimmy, we will sure miss you, but we have lots of great memories we can share about you. Thanks for being our friend.

I grew up with Jimmy asking me if I had a boyfriend every single time I saw him. Obviously, the answer was always “nope not yet” until I actually did. The year I first said yes to him about having a boyfriend he replied with, “well he better be buying you lots of ice cream and if he’s not then get another one”.
Jim always wanted what was best for all of us kids and loved watching us have fun. We will all miss having him say “hey gang” when we go over to hang out with Mia and Emersyn and his amazing humour. We will miss you lots. Lots of love to the fam, Cassi and Ashton

Jimmy no words can express the sadness I feel and have felt since the minute you were taken from all those who loved you so much. You were such a kind gentle fun loving guy who forever touched so many hearts. From the first time I met you I knew you were a man who truly loved his family and always made our Family feel like the luckiest people around. Jimmy you gave so much but never asked for anything in return just knowing you made someone’s life better was all the thanks you needed. Those who knew you will be forever grateful to have been blessed to be a part of your world. You over came so many challenges in life but this last one God gave you was a challenge you could not win.It has been said God only takes the best and I know you are amongst those chosen. I will forever cherish the time spent with you as an honour and will forever miss your presence at our family gatherings. Jimmy your forever going to be missed by anyone who knew you but your family has lost such a big piece of their hearts that time will only help as we remember the stories of life and jokes that made us all laugh. Jimmy we love you and miss you so much but will keep your memory alive by remembering that all you ever wanted was to make anyone around you feel like they were special. I couldn’t have asked for a better father in law for Rob but I no your time spent with him has taught him you do not take life for granted that we live life to our fullest and tell all around us everyday how much they are loved.

I called him my uncle, I was listening about him from his Mum really often, when I was spending my time with her like child. Unfortunately I had not many opportunities to know him personally, because he lived thousands kilometres from me, but it doesn’t means that I couldn’t know him from my grandma because I was speaking with her hundreds hours about his personality. She loved him, I loved her and the time when I was with her was time which I always loved. When I growing I got valuable skills and knowledge from her and most of the time she told me about my uncle Jim or his father and most importantly she was talking me hours and hours about God, sense of life, past and future lives and many more, what is very important to know in this world. She gave me bases to my life and allowed me to be inspired his great life journey.
I believe in his eternal being and think that he is still smiling.
I always respected him, still do and will do forever.
Me and believe that everyone Herčík has it same, therefore I want wish honestly to family members and everyone whom Jim stayed in their hearts or minds.
Me and our grande family of Herčík’s are wishing everyone from far destination for us all the best and mainly to get back smiles on yours faces soon. As soon as possible. We are still family and doesn’t matter how far we are.
We stay together in consciousness.
I warmly greet and hope you everyone will be happiness early.

It seems like a lifetime ago when I first met the Hercik family. Normally, your boss's spouse might unnerve employees when they come into work; everyone might start racing around trying to look busy, but not when Jimmy was coming. When we saw the red Porsche zipping into the Mohawk, we all would get excited because shenanigans were about to happen. He never disappointed. It is hard to imagine a world without Jimmy in it. If growing up takes a village, I am indebted to all of the remarkable adults who have helped raise me. Jimmy taught me not to take life so seriously while enjoying the fruits of your labour.
Jimmy was a brave risk-taker who took a gamble on a foreign country and made a successful life for his family by banking on the Canadian dream.
Sitting around a roaring campfire was perhaps my favourite time to chat with Jimmy. He liked to talk about his life using fantastic detail. A mark of a great storyteller is someone who can completely ensnare their audience. Jimmy’s stories were captivating. He told stories about his family, the army, and growing up while living in Czechoslovakia. It was a different side of Jimmy, a serious side, which I’m sure few people had the opportunity to see. Maybe that’s why I felt so privileged to be in his circle.
For my annual “Christmas Around the World lesson,” I use the “Golden Pig” legend as an example of traditions for my students. I tell the story of the Hericks and their harrowing escape from a communist regime. When I tell the story this year, maybe he’ll be watching over us and smiling. That will be my lifelong tribute to him, telling his story every Christmas. Christmas with Jimmy and his family were always filled with merry-making and fantastic food. Jimmy would joke and tease everyone around him no matter who you were or your age; you were all fair game for a ribbing. I always felt welcomed at the Hercik home. It was a place of warmth and love, a true testament to family. Jimmy, thank you for enhancing my life. You will always be missed.
Love Always
Laurie A. MacKinnon
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you, in the palm of
His hand

It is with heavy heart that I say good bye my dear friend. Although I could write a book I will keep our memories private.
When you arrived in Canada after escaping a communist country you set out to accomplish your goals. First learning English from the T.V. & a dictionary.
Renovating your first home, buying your Porsche, starting businesses, building new home, experiencing motor home & boating life & finally building a family vacation home.
A highlight that we are so thankful for is when you & Irene toured Candi & I for 3 weeks in Czech Republic.
Our deepest condolences to Irene, Martin, Michelle & Families.

Dear Irene ,Michelle (Rob, Mia and Emersyn) and Martin (Sydney , Kahli and Amanda )
Words cant begin to describe how saddened I am to hear of Jimmy's passing . Jimmy always had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and infectious smile . To be in his presence you were always laughing with his jokes and good natured ribbing . I always felt very welcome in Jimmy's and Irene's home . Being with them was like being with family .
Jimmy had a very full life . If you were lucky enough to get to know him and hear about his earlier years in Czechoslovakia . His time in the army and then the family' s escape from communist Czechoslovakia . With humble beginnings in Canada , Jimmy built a beautiful life for his family. To see Jimmy and Irene together you could see there true love and devotion for one another .
It had been a while since I had last seen Jimmy, but I just ran into him by chance not that long ago . We had a great visit with lots of laughs . It was like i just saw him the other day . It was a pleasure to know you Jimmy you were a wonderful husband ,father and friend . You have built a legacy for your children and grandchildren to be proud of .
You will always be fondly remembered

I worked with Jim as a carpenter in the 80's. Hw was a very talented carpenter and always fun to be around. Jim travelled to Lorraine and my wedding and made a video of our wedding for us. It was his wedding present to us. We will always appreciate him for doing that for us.
I met Jim many times at the Credit Union and he always seemed to be joking around or teasing the bank tellers. Although I have only seen him once since he sold his business he was still the same Jim Herick to me.
Lorraine remembers meeting Jim in Superstore one day when our kids were little, he had a grocery cart full of pop for your business. Our kids commented "boy that man drinks alot of pop"
I will always love him for who he was. He was a good friend and I will miss him greatly. Irene, Lorraine and I offer our sincerest sympathies to you and your family.
