My best memory of Doreen is that she was the person that taught me to read. She was in Grade Nine in Burke School and our teacher Ada Morris was often too busy with the many grades of students. Doreen volunteered to help by teaching the Grade One class the alphabet and reading our first words. She was the most patient and wonderful teacher that I ever had. Doreen was like a second mom to me in the five or so years we spent growing up in Lashburn. Having lost my own mother a few years ago, I have a bit of a sense of some of the grief which may be present. My condolences to all of you during this difficult time and in the months ahead.

Doreen was a second mom to many of us. I had the privilege of spending my youth in the Staniforth family. My best memories were around picking berries, weeding the garden, and feeding the horses so that Ken and Brenda could play or bike. Huck Finn had nothing on Doreen. She will be missed.
