Obituary of Wayne Mooney
Wayne Mooney
January 14, 1944 – November 10, 2023
Harry Wayne Mooney of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. After living 29,155 days or 79 years, 9 months and 27 days, Wayne Mooney passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 with family by his side at the Viking Extendicare Home, in Viking, Alberta.
Born January 14, 1944 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan to Harold and Rubina (Russell) Mooney, Wayne was the youngest of four boys who were raised on the farm south of Choiceland, Saskatchewan. By the age of 16 Wayne owned his own land which began a life long interest in owning good farm equipment. Farm life was good but to help out his brothers, Wayne spent many winters in Prince George, BC driving logging truck. Soon the farm was sold, so Wayne moved his family to BC for a couple of years before settling in Lloydminster to begin his Ag Equipment Sales career.
Wayne joined Agland Lloydminster in 1980 after a stint with Coop Implements. Through-out his years with Agland he held various roles included Ag Salesman and Customer Support Rep. He left for a brief time to take care of his ailing father returning to work for Agland again in the trucking department where he loved hauling loads all over Alberta and Saskatchewan. Wayne worked hard and wanted things done right. He worked until medical conditions forced him to retire but the Agland team and the Kay family continued to be a very important part of Wayne’s life until the very end.
Wayne had a quick sense of humor and loved to joke around. He especially enjoyed being outdoors! Moose hunting and hunting camp, quadding to explore or searching for moose antlers, following moose tracks while snowmobiling, water skiing all afternoon then looking for moose along the shore on the way back to the cabin, Wayne lived to hunt moose! Wayne also had an appreciation for old cars, farm equipment and Ford trucks, but only if they had an 8-foot box, otherwise “how the hell could you haul a sheet of plywood!”
Wayne and Ellen had three children, Kevin, Terry and Curtis and life as a Mooney was a constant adventure! Wayne’s kids always had some sort of motorized toy and a new place to go explore. It didn’t matter whether they were young or as they got older, or even at times when they just didn’t want his help, Wayne would do anything for his kids, he was a great father!
Time spent at the acreage or the “Moonshiners” Peck Lake cabin with family and friends was special but it was always Go! Go! GO! You likely have a few stories of your own to share because Wayne had a reputation for raising a little hell now and again, we will miss you dad.
At Wayne’s request, there will be no funeral. Wayne’s mother Ruby was not able to fulfill her dream to donated her body to science, so Wayne has donated his body in his mother’s memory to help educate medical, dental and health sciences students. Friends so wishing to make a tax-deductible donation in Wayne’s memory may do so to: University of Alberta, In memory of Harry Wayne Mooney, 5-01 Medical Sciences Building, Edmonton, Alberta, T6G 2H7.
Wayne is survived by his children: son Kevin (Kathy)Mooney of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, daughter Terry (Dennis) Snider of Lloydminster, Alberta, son Curtis (Jen) Mooney of Smoky Lake, Alberta, grandson Dustin Snider, granddaughter Kristin Snider, Sister-in-law Margret Mooney, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Harold and Ruby Mooney, Brothers/sisters-in-law: Glenn (Lillian) Mooney, Russell (Shirley)Mooney and Gordon Mooney, Mother and Father-in-law Teen and Eric Ogren. The family wishes to thank the management and staff at the Viking Extendicare Home for the exceptional care of their father Wayne. To Shirley McKee, you are a wonderful friend, thank you!
In Loving Memory
